i have the HRC kit in my 450R(cam, airbox lid, needle, silencer core, ect.) i am running the 185 main jet, stock 48 pilot jet, and HRC needle with clip in 3rd position. when i kickstart it with the hotstart lever pushed in, it backfires. does this mean i'm to lean with the pilot jet and should i go up to a 50?

Sounds like you are too lean on your pilot circuit, Try not using the Hot Start. Will it start OK without the hot start? I never need to use my hot start. The hot start just leans the mixture out. How many turns out is your air screw?

yes, it starts fine without the hotstart when the engine is warm, but takes a few kicks when cold. i just put the 50 pilot in and i think that i have cured the problem

When my engines cold it sometime starts on the 1rst kick other times it could take up to 6 kicks. Use the hotstart only when your engine is hot:rolleyes:

The hotstart is to be used when the engine is blairing hot, not when its cold, use the choke when the bike is cold.
