I was just out riding my EX and i heard a clunk and it shutoff. I went to start it back up and I heard the starter crank over but no motor crankin over. What could be the problem? Blowen up or something else or what? BTW, I think I was lied to about it being a 610.

If She did blow and the motor is junk, how much would a crf 450 motor conversion cost me? Or another 400ex motor?

Thanks

This thing has 610cc? I never heard of such a big stroker for the 400ex and it cant be too reliable. Well anyway, first check your valves, if there too tight they wont let your motor turn over, let me know.

I would say the valves but I don't think they would cause it to just all of a sudden shut off would they? I had my valves too tight once and it wouldnt start so I know what thats like.

BTW, I said I think I was lied to about it being a 610.

Well what did you pay for it and what was doen to it besides the motor? Just check the valves anyway before you go ripping into it and then check all your connections.

I traded my 87 250R straight up for it. It has elka triple rated front shocks, +2 a arms, pep steering stabilizer, 909 bars, bandit front tires, holeshot rear tires, etc.

and I have the title for it and all too.

Well what did your r have done to it?

Suspension and handeling wise, nothing. Just 2-3 offset rims.

motor wise it had FMF Fatty pipe, duncan silencer, fresh top end pro-x .40 over, reed spacer, ct reed cage, barnett clutch, cr clutch basket, cr250 headgasket, oneal bars, ceet cover, boyesen reeds, uni filter, razrs, and a gusseted frame.

Well either you gotta hell of a deal or ripped off! Have you raced a 450r or a yzf450? You should be able to take them in a short drag with no problems even if your not that good of a rider. You should know by just riding it if its a 610 or not.

Well I havent raced one but I was actually drag racing my friends raptor today and I was right next to it til 3rd gear then I kinda ran out of room so I dunno. It seemed pretty fast, but not 610.

Well if the raptor isnt highly modified, you should be beating by 2 or 3 quad lenths in about a 330 ft drag.

So either it needs a new piston bad or Im sorry but it aint no 610. That thing should pull your arms out of your sockets caus eI know the 500 kits do.

Put it this way, my friend has a raptor with a full pipe, intake kit, and cam and my stock bore z with mods can beat him easy in a 330 ft drag!

Ok i hate to be the bearer of bad news but a 400ex can never have 610cc. It is phiscallys impossible. Think about the extremes that would have to be had to get this insane amount of cc's. First a bore can only go so big and the farthest bore i know of is a 440. then you stroke it the rest of the way and the highest i have ever heard of is stroking it to a 500 with a 440 bored and i really don't think it is physically possible to go anyhiger. The engine just won't allow it. There is not enough room. And as far as the problem you probably threw a rod. That is what it sounds like to me.

I think you sould get your r back or get him to buy you a new motor.

I totally agree with it not being a 610. I dunno what I'm going to do.

If I threw a rod, would it still move whenever you try to start it in gear without pullin the clutch it?

If you threw a rod you would know it. You would have heard a pop and then a clank on each revolution of the crankshaft until it stopped rotating.

I don't quite understand you question but if the rod broke you won't get any compression noise out of the exhaust pipe. But the crank still might turn but the of course the rod and piston are not moving. If you hear some exhaust noise then its probly just a valve is stuck or spring broke or maybe timing chain broke.

check your clutches.. basket could have shattered.. buddies raptor did that and it was all jammed up, it turned over but it was slow and sounded like hell.
