Well, after a whole lot of things kept me from getting this done a month ago, the quad is now ridable. i am still awaiting another set of nerf bars and factory black fenders but here she sits in here current state.

Laker Custom fenders, Elka Suspension with linkage, Burgard +2 chrome arms and +1 stem, Burgard beadlocks and grooved radials with turfs. Burgard custom Exriders.com billet clutch cover, Rekluse Z-start clutch, LSR axle, Curtis Sparks full exhaust, W.E.R. dampner,LSR anti-fade, TAG bars, RTC levers,Duncan bumper, AC grab bar and nerfs and more.

The frame was powdercoated Gun Metal Grey along with the hubs, rocker cover and misc. parts. Just about everything that can rust or corrode was molycoated for extra protection. Distinctive Chrome (Popo) took care of the chrome subframe and small brackets and spindles.

I am dedicating this to my dad who passed away wednesday night after a battle he couldnt win. I know you didnt get to see it finished pop, but I think you would be proud of what we have accomplished.

I want to thank my brother for his hard work on this quad also, along with several close friends. C & D Racing, Dusty and Colby along with Jeff from the Quadshop and I couldnt forget Izzy at Burgard Cycle. You guys are the best and got me everything I needed and I thank you.

Pappy, what kind of coating/paint did you put on your head pipe?

Pappy
11-13-2004, 08:00 AM
the headpipe is ceramic coated straight from Sparks. I thought it was ruined the other night, i was running the quad , checking over things and my dog "Moose" wouldnt leave me alone. he leaned against the header and ran out of the shop on fire:eek: I chased him down and put him out but it left a nasty black mark on the pipe (stunk real bad too:p )

Fortunatley the coating did its job and after a few more warm up cycles the mark disappeared:D

omg, i'm sorry about your dog but i just laughed real real hard when i read that...THe dog ran out on fire, lol!

How's the grooved radials up front?

Pappy
11-13-2004, 08:29 AM
radials are good on hardpack and loose loam. they were the preferred weapon all thru the 80's and early 90's and even today.

i really wanted to try and bring some old school styling to the new 450R so i decided to use them

yes this will serve dual purpose. if i get a chance to run TT i will run the knobby class and it can be easily fitted with a sway bar.

right now the quad is at Twiggs Cycle on display for the rest of this week.

grove them tamers so it can have the old school mx quad look....the kinda look that went outta style with gary denton

quadrcr161
11-15-2004, 09:51 AM
went out of style? i still see grooved turfs around, im actually runing a set because they work. since when did building a quad have to have style?

nice looking R pappy, should go with TT racing, you wont get it as dirty.

you dont groove tamers for style, you groove them for track conditions.

and to bash denton is pretty low...especially since he can still outride most of the pro's today:o

TCracin440ex
11-15-2004, 10:01 AM
not bashing denton...hes a bad arse riders...but what im sayin is...with itp holeshots, kenda klaws, and razrs people really dont run tamers as much...i see more klaws, holeshots, and razrs than tamers...

i like tamers cuz they are cheap....i have a set of mxr's and ill never buy a set of them again rubber compound is too soft

quadrcr161
11-15-2004, 10:07 AM
exactly pappy, a set of grooved turfs, and radials will not only hook but give you more of a controlled traction such as sliding through corners on a real hard track. now the MXR's are great on a looser surface and usually dont slide as well, and if you are sliding them your just baking off rubber.

Hawk III
11-15-2004, 02:56 PM
I agree with pappy on this one. grooved tamers flat out own. on certain tracks there is nothing else better, in fact if i had to pick one tire for mx (thank god i don't have to) it would be grooved tamers. the only reason they don't seem quite as popular today is itp owns them now, and they want to push their "itp" stuff. Don't get me wrong i run the mxr's also for certain tracks, but the grooved tamers are hard to beat

This is my opinion on it. Tammers are great tires but with the new 4 strokes torque and the tech that goes into tires now adays, Im gonna try something else. I mean they are from golf cart equiptment arent they?

Hey Pappy nice quad! I really was getting ready to tear my 450R down gusset the frame and give you a call to do it in that color. I guess you beat me to the punch with your vary own quad. I am still going to do a rebuild and give you a call just gotta do some color research. Bring that thing to Budds. on the 14th would love to see it and talk to you about mine.
Hey when you pick up your quad from twigg tell Dan Laferty the Fredericksburg Va. boys said hi. We bought 4 quads from him a year ago. The 1st and 2nd 450R and 2 YFZ's great people to deal with

id love to come to budds, but im sure ill be slammed with family again this weekend doing their best to console me since my dad passed away. (im like...go home please:p ) if i can find a way ill do my best to swing down.

Damn straight! I love a strong sounding motor but we are just going to lose more riding areas and the public opinion battle unless we get some self control.

Great job on the quad! I wish I had someone out my way that did the quality pc'ing you do.

keep riding it and it will mostly turn to dust. once it burns itself off, hit it with some 000 steel wool

By that logic, all:
Honda's should be Red
Yamaha's should be Blue
Suzuki's should be Yellow
Kawasaki's should be Green
KTM's should be Orange

and no variations whatsoever. What a boring world it would be.

It's not a factory racer.. so it can be any color he likes. ;) As soon as honda pays the rider to race.. then they'll wear red. :)

Besides, about the only thing left on that thing that is "Honda" is the engine casings, and a few gears.. lol.

ok kid, the point is, is that your like 14 with a quad you didnt pay for, and nobody appreciates your sarcastic attitude. The Whole "thanks ***, like i didnt already know that. " If you didnt like his quad, keep it to your self. Pappy has an awesome quad, look at that thing. The all black may be a little plain, but i stilll like it when it is as trick as that. And with all the quads being one color, how gay would it be to go to races and not see different color schemes, thats like watching a black and white movie. Just keep the sarcastic remarks to yourself and if you dont like somebody's quad, or somebody, keep it to yourself, just like the forum rules have stated.

i was always partial to the white 250r and even the white atc250 trikes(well, white was used..lol)

when i first got back into quads in the late 90's early 00, one of the first quads that caught my eye was i believe a full LSR 250R based quad. that look stuck with me and it has pretty much carried thru to this day.

dont let the looks fool you, the engine is bone stock. and if i didnt do all the powdercoating work myself she would be still sporting the stock paint....lol

from the angles on one of those pics. it looks like your wheels are cambered in a bunch. Do you like it that way? I cant find a good feel for it, when i rode my friends whose was toed in perfect, but with works shocks, then mine thats cambered in to much, but elkas, they both feel jumpy, his b/c his shocks, and mine b/c my camber. It just feels weird. I guess it just takes some getting used to. Those graphics look bad!, and so does that pipe. How much better than the sparks is it?

papy looks great, I might have liked the black a little better though but still great work man.

Hey I have been really considering the grooved front tires, I live in Kansas and the tracks or just about anywhere you ride the ground is really hard and my hole shots just seem to be wearing down fast. So how do those tires hold up and preform on the track trails.

Pappy
08-22-2005, 10:18 PM
i dont know how well they will work or last on trails, but they work really well on hardpack tracks. wear is probably a little better on that type of track and the handling is better IMO.

but when its wet or the track is loose loam, its time to have some regular tires.
