on my 400ex. Is there anyway to fix it without buying a new a-arm, like honda shop told me?

Depending on how big the tear is, I think you can put some caulking or rubber compound on it.

its possible to install a new one and use saftery wire to resecure it. i dont remeber if you can buy the boot or if an aftermarket one will work. i have a few boots here id be happy to send you if it will help

I've actually got two tears in the boot.

Pappy, where did you buy the boots?

How do you re-grease the balljoints? I've got one that is pretty stiff and doesn't move too freely.

TIA,

Aaron

stock ball joints really cant be greased unless the rubber boot is removed or grease zerks are installed. check with an auto parts store and you might get lucky.

i have a few from arms that ive rebuilt and saved the rubber boot.

Autozone sells a greas needle. It is made for greasing balljoins, and goes on a greas gun. I have used it a few times, works better than nothing.

Maybe I should try to convince the wife to let me buy new a-arms.. :macho :D

Are there any aftermarket ball joints that can be pressed into place on the stock a-arms?

technically yes, however the ball joint has a nylon polymer "cup" under it and its function is to act as both a cusion and locator for the ball joint. when heated this cup becomes soft and when it re hardens can become brittle.

i have done a few sets and none posed big problems, but id advise against it. i have also talked with alot of people that had it done with no problems but its a chance i dont feel is worth taking.

if you have access to fabricating equipment you can modify your stock arms to accept removable ball joints. but truthfully as many stock sets as I see for sale it just doesnt add up financially

I ordered some ball joint boots from the Quadshop but have no idea were Jeff got them from.
