i just got a chance to buy kory ellis's yfz450. i just wanted to get your guys thoughts on this. if you think its a good idea or bad. the bike has everything imagineable on it.. if i was to build it from scratch it would cost 25000 to 28000. i can buy it for 15000. it does have a never used stroked 450 motor. any of your thoghts would help.. tell me what you think

no offense to kory in any way,

but there are very few pro bikes for sale that havent been thrashed. trust me, i learned the hard way but luckily was able to make out on the deal.

if you have $15,000 to dump, build your own

i dont really have 15000 to dump. im figuring 7000 to 8000 of that is just buying the bike stock..but i do have the extra 7000 to fix one up..but i wouldnt be able to get close to whats on his

Another thing to consider is that he is getting a new one every 3 months for a reason, mainly because he rides the snot out of it. It probably wouldn't last much longer than that with the amount of abuse he puts on it. I personally wouldn't do it. I'd buy a new one and slowly mod it to my liking. Yeah you won't have what he has on it, but do you really need it? You would have a killer yfz if you bought a new one and dumped $7k into it, plus it would be new and unabused.

ya thats what i thinking thats why i made this thread..they also said it comes with a waranty..but im wondering if i can get the longer one..

spend the money don't be skeered

Typically if you are going to race buying a pro bike is a bad Idea. Like mentined before there is a reason they get new ones and get rid of their old ones. the bikes may look perfect but I am sure they are not. Unless you are just ungodly luck you will still have to put some more money into the quad soon after you buy it if you continue to run it as hard as they did. Now if you just want a bike that looks bad ***** and you can tell your friends you have all this stuff on your quad then go for it, it is then worth it!

I would check with K&K atv first, they always have full race bikes for sale, and they all seem to go for around that price.

Yeah i would just buy a new one...i can bet he murdered that bike while he had it

11-12-2004, 03:19 PM
yah..i watched him ride at lorettas and met him but (no offense) he rode the crap out of it like all the pros did & he blew the head gasket or something and got DNF'd and was just riding around...im sure this is a different bike but be careful

For $15000, you could build yourself one hell of a nice BRAND NEW YFZ, TRX, Z400, etc, etc, etc.

My YFZ with everything on it, Roll/Axis/Duncan, only had about 15500 in it.

Here you go:

YFZ: @7000
Walsh front end: 1200
PEP ZPS Fronts: 1100
PEP Rear: 900
Walsh Swinger: 1000 (with nice carrier)
Axle: 400
Hubs: 400
Exhaust: 450
K&N: 110
Graphics: 110
Cam Mod: FREE!!!!
Stem: 350
Bars: 100
Vortex: 400
Grips: 15
Levers: 100
Rims: 900 (Hypers)
Tires: 240
Nerfs: 240
Bumper: 100
Dampner: 80

Now these prices are a little high and a generalization, but still, it only ads up to $15195, and that is for all NEW stuff.

And, the YFZ motor has plenty of power with just the pipe, breather and Vortex. (Most don't even run the Vortes, but it does offer a pretty nice boost over stock) Shop around and you could probably get even better prices.

Dont do it. That bikes built with all GYT-R parts, which are good, but 25-28k is a load of crap. Your gettin' ripped IMO

in my opinion it would be a wast of money because his quad is setup exatly for him and for him only. i know for sure he has custom lowered ac propegs, and a twist throttle, its probly wasted too hes cool one of my favorite riders but i know by way iv seen him ride he totally doesnt care how much damage he does too the quad or the track as long as he wins (jus like me) and it would be a waste of money because u have roo be able to ride well to ride somthin like that because u could have a stock yfz w/ exhaust and be able to go faster if it would be more gentle powerband. so go make ur own unless u qualify by what i said its more likely.

the motor is all i could see being destroyed. I mean the shocks would definately need service and the frame, arms, and swinarm would need to be checked for paint chipping from stress. I would buy it if i had the money.

think of it this way...if he needs a new one then its beat!

Think of it this way, if it was broke then they fixed it. Ellis is not going to ride a Quadcross or a national with a broken bike or part. Also if anyone has seen Kory in action at the quadcross races, he is probably one of the smoothest riders out there. And for all that said 28 k no way to build that bike.. i would have to say its damn close. Sit down and add up all the parts on that bike. The front shocks alone are 1650 bucks. Also dont jump to conclusion that this bike is clapped out, there are 3 bikes just like this that he rides. Id buy it for the 14, if I had it.

when your a pro you cant afford to not get a new one. Doug gust gets a new one, what every race. I mean they do ride the snot out of thoose bikes, but if they are offering a warranty then i imagine everything was checked over. They would have to to offer a warranty, because they can't expect somebody that would buy THAT bike to baby it. There gonna ride it like it was built to be ridden.
