Upon receiving my hotcam stage II and reading the directions prior to install. It says not to use it with a fully synthetic oil. Why? I've asked a few local people and they say that it is rather odd for a cam to specify any oil reccomendations. I'll probably be switching to amsoil soon and want to be able to still run the hotcam.

They may mean not to use synthetic oil during cam break-in. I know that is recommended for new engines. I guess the synthetic is too slick and doesn't allow for proper break in.

When I first broke in my hotcam in my 416, I used regular honda 10w-40 oil. Now that the cam is broken in, and in my 426, I run Amsoil 10w-40;)

Just don't use it for breakin. We have been running amsoil with hotcams for years.:)

Synthetic oil is too slick to properly break-in a cam. Use regular oil to break the cam in, then you can swith to synthetic.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks to all. How about a new clutch? Same situation?
