ok i just had the ex rebuilt and it was bored to a 406
i dont even have an hour on the new motor and its smoking and leaking oil from the head

the only riding it has was a few laps around my yard
the engine is not even a day old

why did you need to rebuilt a 2004 its sill 2004 thats not right or may you just ride a lot a lot a lot?

hey i have a 04 im on my second rebuild first one was by honda to a 402 and now its going to a 440 becouse honda donesnt know what they are doing

if its where the head cover meets teh head, take off the head and put a new liquid gasket on it and put it back together

well since u have the cover off then look at the valve seal and make sure the metal springs r good on them cause mmine went bad.

if it was just rebuilt by a shop then take it back and tell them to fix it, if you go tearing into it and cant fix it yourself then you will screw up any chances of the shop fixing there screw up because you messed with first.

noooooooooo! If you raise the head cover up and it will screw up the rockers and all your clearances, the rocker assembly is built into the head cover!

Yes the rocker arms are on shafts that are in the cylinder head cover and yes I have heard that the valve clearances will be out of whack when you put the cylinder head cover back on. BUT I have had the cylinder head cover off of my XR250R(same valve train as 400ex motor)and everytime I have checked my valve clearances when putting it back on and they have been the same as they were when it was pulled off..Think about it for a second..yes your pulling the cylinder head cover off but your not turning the tappet screw that you use to adjust your valves..but always check your clearances after having the cover off..just common sense..and if there out of spec..simply adjust them back to specs..no biggie at all.

Thats not what I meant, he said to put a liquid gasket on there, that would raise it up.
