I have an 86 250r and i was wondering if there was a cheap ways of making the powerband more controlable instead of just spinning the tires in place. I was talken to some guy and he said somthen about the 87-89's have a longer stroke, does anyone know how much this would cost to convert too?

the 87-89 r's have a connecting rod that is 5mm longer than the 86 connecting rod, but the wrist pin is located 5mm higher on the 87-89 r's so the stroke is the same.

BUT, you can smooth out the powerband by running a 86 piston and spacer plate.
If you have a 86 R then the only way you can run this setup is by having a shop install a 87-89 length rod.

Personally, the 86 short rod makes more power and revs faster.

why would you want to change that?
