If noodling is when you swim in the hole after them then I have seen it done to bigger catfish. the hicks around here think nothing of it. they just dive right in.:ermm:

Try bringing up a stingray with a wing span of 4 feet. Feels like your pulling up some plywood. Going out 18 miles thursday in the gulf to catch more fish. Also, try a 5 foot reef shark. All you hear is your drag just going out. Had something spool the line on my reel in about 8 seconds and had about 300 yards of line on it, and it took it all.

How does something like that taste? Do you even eat them, or are they just trophies?

I'd imagine a fish that size , the meat would taste like crap . I wouldn't want to pay to have a fish that size mounted ..... cost ya a small fortune !!!:ermm:

Got a book on fish in the gulf of Mexico and it lets you know if the fish are good to eat or not. I'm sure there is a couple of the sting rays that they say are good to eat. Will post those names of the stingrays when I get back from work later on tnight around 8pm or 9pm.

wilkin250R, Yes you can eat stingrays. Here are the ones you can:
1) Southern Stingray (other names for it are: stingaree, raya & terre) Food value: quite good; they do taste like scallops
2)clearnose skate (other names for it are: ange) food value: Good: same as stingrays
3) roundel skate ( other name for it ange) food value; good; scallop-like taste

Got this info from a bok at Wal-Mart called "Sport Fish of the Gulf of Mexico". It only had three kinds a stingrays in it. So I'm sure there are more that are good to eat. Its bad when you catch a fish and you have to let it go cause its too BIG. Caught a redfish that was 38inches and weighed about 28lbs. Can only keep these fish from 18inches to 27inches.
