I'm not sure if you are really attached to the red on your quad, but I think it would really clean it up if you got a set of black shock covers, a new graphics kit or strip the stock graphics, and paint your hubs black. I think the Yellow/Black theme would look really sick on your quad (compliments the hood and seat cover) and these mods would be relatively cheap. Don't get me wrong you got one nice 300 there, but I think it would just look a lot cleaner without the red accents. Mad compliments on the 250 hood man, that looks sooo factory and sano man. Whoever came up with that idea definitely deserves a cookie :p

ya these guys got it right, get the red outa there and it would look super clean. thats one thing i dont undertand about honda, red quads got all red and black, but the yellow ones have the same red hubs. red graphics, and red shocks. looks kinda stupid.

I think these guys have all the right ideas. With removing all the red from your quad. Paint your hubs, and get some shock covers. Also, I'm pretty sure you can polish up your HMF pipe if it is brushed aluminum. If it is you can polish it up really nice to look like this.

someone asked for a pic of the front and here it is, normally i have a light in the hood but i was goin to a track so i took it out and made some screening. yeah i was thinking about getting rid of all the red too cuz my graphics are starting to peel off anyway, the old problem with that is that ill have the 2 front red shocks, but then again if i get shock covers ill be fine. i kinda wanna save up for a pred this winter so im not gonna spend loads more money but i think ill go with:
-yellow + black flame shock covers
-graphics off
-powdercoat my hubs black
-polish my gas tank lid
-TRY to ploish my pipe
i tried polishing a sidecase on this old dirtbike we have and i got it down to 1600 grit but thats the lowest i had, then i used some of that white rouge stuff but it seemed to make it kinda blurry, do i just keep rubbing it in till it shines or what?? any techniques you'd like to share??

I know there are few techniques, but here is what I do as you can see it works for me..

1. I apply Mother's Mag & Aluminum polish compound with my index and middle fingertips (you can wrap them in a clean cotton rag if you don't like to get messy). I apply as if I were polishing my shoes. I don't use a rag because I feel that I get the compound in the pores of the material.

2. Then I hit it with a dual action orbital sander to make the process a lot easier and quicker. If you don't have an orbital sander or an air compressor you can try using a car waxer. You can buy these at most auto parts store. I did the WB pipe with a 10" Waxmaster and 100% cotton bonnet.

3. Use a clean cotton towel/rag/bonnet to get a real nice clean luster finish.

Repeat steps 1-3 as needed. If you don't have a lot of clean rags then save step 3 for the end. You will see that your rags get all black.

Keep hitting it until you get a mirror like finish. If you don't have either one then you just have to use some old fashioned elbow grease.

I notice the 250ex is sporting a curtis sparks pipe. :D

Black rims would be nice. I had my stock rims powder coated black and they look nice. I haven't mounted my stock rims and tires back on yet.

yeah i was going to polish the swingarm on my dads ktm but then i realized it would be wayyy too much work taking it off to use the bench grinder, so i do have a attachment for it and all the compounds like white rouge red rouge, this brown stuff and this black stuff

so should i sand the hmf first with like 1500?? then polish it with white + red rouge for a really long time or maybe just polish it and forget the sanding?? do u think a bench grinder will work for a exhaust pipe??

Thanks man. For the handle bar question. Those are the standard 7/8" cr high bends. I run all Cr High on my bikes.

More Renthals and of course razrs.

11-28-2004, 03:24 PM
Be sure to look out for the changes for both the yfz and 416. They will be identical.:D I have a pattern here, Razr MX, AC,Renthals, HMF. hmmm. Can't you tell what parts i like?? I have front hipers on the yfz now. That pic was from in the spring after that rebuild. 416 needs hipers now:devil:

All of my bars are in the "Ape hanger" position. What it takes to be tall... Oh yea, for people looking, get away from .190s. My buddy bought the set off my 300ex. All 4 rims and tires. He destroyed them. The .190s on the 416, i have started to destroy those too. Go hiper!

ny300exrider
11-28-2004, 03:42 PM
yea if your looking for rims DO NOT get .190s. im 130 pounds and bent both rears on a 35 foot table. get some type of beadlocks, burgards are great if you cant afford hiper but im going hiper when i get my 450. back to the topic i think you should get the shock covers and maybe paint the mudscreen on your bumper black, number plate backrounds, maybe pc motor mounts and other stuff. looks nice though

here's a pic of my hmf. i polished it w/ 220, 400, 800, 1000, then buffed w/ white compound and finished w/ eagle one polish. it even looks better now that i got some brown tripoli polish. i'll try and get a new pic tomorrow. Sorry bout the frame, i know it looks awful.......gonna pc it this winter
