look on ebay, theres usually a good bit of after market oversized tanks on there, for a lot less than what one would cost from a company.

You could try to run dual oil coolers.

Pick up a stocker and the lines to hook it up. I've seen pictures on the site of a 400 with the dual setup.

I have air scoopes but my engine still gets real hot and seems to take forever to cool down. Might be the mods (piston and cam) but my opinion of air scoops is that they are for cosmetics (looks) and not much on function. I have heard that race gas and synthetic blend oil will help a little. It's a air cooled machine. It's going to get hot.
Just my 2 cents.

You didn't specify if the 400ex has any modifications installed. Like gordon said they are an air coold machine so they tend to get hot.

Have you done a plug reading to make sure that you are not running to lean. When I bought mine new the jetting was off and it got really hot. I did a plug reading and it was running lean so I took it back and had the dealer fix the jetting. I didn't know a whole lot about jetting back then.

May want to see if the site sponsor C&D racing have any scoops in stock. If not I bought mine from OMF. Do they work? I think at low speeds where it is most necessary not really, but at higher speeds maybe a little. But what the heck they make you look fast.

This is member speedy400 quad. You can see the dual oil coolers. He says that it helped quite a bit.

For the most brands I agree, take a look @ the RTC racing scoops. They have a totally different design from other brands I have seen and they work.

my buddy runs the RTC scoops. i really don't have any evidence that any scoops make a difference but they may. there are so many different brands and styles, one is likely to be superior over the others.

Go with Speedy400's idea and get the second oil cooler, or you can pick up a tranny cooler for a vehicle (bigger) and use that. I've ridden Speedy400's 416 and it's fast as hell, and when I was on it I noticed no problem with heat, seemed to run cooler than a stock quad.

Depends how extensive you want to go. If you want it to stay cooler with a bigger motor you could get an aluminum sleeve made for your cylinder.

The aluminum sleeve would help get the heat out a lot faster then the steel sleeve.

You would need to get the cylinder nicasiled and it would be just a durable or more so then the steel sleeve.

devildriver - PM Speedy400 and I'm sure he'd be happy to give you instructions on how he did it. He's a good guy so don't worry.
