i am also getting a FCR carb. so if there any advice before i get it please let me know. i heard it did a lot for the bike. i will also have the stock carb forsale so if anyone wants it make me a serious offer. i know you need a new boot for the carb. i have a works connection lever with hot start so i should be good on the cable end of it. i just want to make sure there is nothing i need extra after getting the carb or to watch for.

I recently did the swap to the FCR and 1 thing to check is the resistance readings for the TPS (throttle position sensor). The 450R service manual explains what they need to be. I had to adjust my sensor to get the correct reading across 2 of the wires. Also, a Zip Ty fuel screw is a good idea to replace the stock fuel screw. It makes adjusting the fuel screw 100 times easier.

If you're keeping the stock light switch assembly, you can use the stock hot start cable.

Many racers in AZ are going to the FCR carbs and they say its not worth it. Throttle response is a little crisper and thats about it.

isn't the FCR a 40 mm and the stock a 38? what's the big difference?

The stock carb on a 450R is a 42mm.

I had originally not planned on the FCR as I had heard the same thing, but after talking with a few guys who made the swap, I decided to take the plunge.

There is absolutely no peak hp difference between the 2 carbs. The big difference is part throttle response and power at part throttle. For drag racing or really tight woods, I'd say stick with the stock carb. For dunes, fast trails and mx, I'd say it's worth it. Throttle response is much crisper and power at part throttle has improved quite a bit. For me, it made riding the mx track easier.....power out of the corners was much improved.

It's not a mod for everyone, especially considering the price. If you're looking for informed opinions on the FCR, go to www.trx450r.org and search the engine forum. There has been a great deal of discussion on the FCR.

You can use your sock hot start cable with stock light switch/hot start. You have to do a little work swapping the ends, but it is crystal clear.
It is NO faster, but its alot funner. I bet it could make you a faster MX rider, I can see how it could make you faster between turns, but thats it.
I do recommend it just for the fun of riding it. Make sit not feel like a 400ex on steroids, it feels like a different bike.

i carb cost me around $500 for everything. that includes the smaller boot and shaping of the bell to make it fit better. it also includes any cables which are needed.

I am pretty sure JH racing is cheaper than $500 so if anyone still needs one he offers a whole kit. Later
