Does it get easier when warmed up? Sometimes the oil can be to thick or to much aof a friction modifier in the oil causing the clutch to drag. The oil I use tends to drag the clutch till warmed up.
Second suggestion after the free play is to try a different tranny oil.

I would say probly not, cause he stated it's always done it. Unless he's an abuser:eek: I'd try different oil first.

this is what i do when its cold so when i go into 1st it dosent bang into it...

ok, before you start the bike, put it it 1st and roll it back and forth a little so the piston move a few times. ok, now pull the clutch in while in 1st gear and start it, wait a few seconds, and put the bike in neutral and let warm up. now when you want to go, you wont smack into 1st gear, just try it.

another thing, if your on the bike while its warming up, play around with the clutch, keep squeezing it or maybe hold it in for a minute or 2. this will get the tranny oil moving around while warming up.

I hope this helps.
