I was just curious which would make more power and which would be more reliable for the 400ex for when i decide i need more grunt :macho

416 piston w/ 12:1 comp, cam, carb, heavy rod, heavy stud kit, heavy clutch kit =straight ras fuel
VS.
426 piston w/ 11:1 comp, cam, carb, heavy rod =50/50 mix

which do u think would produce more heat?

thanks

Either setup you have there is going to produce very nice gains in power and still be reliable. If i had to pick one i would probably say a 416 just because you still have the 426 option open if the bore is messed up or something happens. The 426 would probably build up more heat also just because you are still on the stock sleeve and its gettin pretty thin with that bore. The 12:1 piston will also generate some more heat but the race gas should cool it down a lot. You might even think about just putting a 12:1 with the heavy duty stuff in the 416. That would produce almost the same power that the 426 would and you still have the option of another bore before a full out 440. To me that would be your best bet.

I would say that would have too be a tie. But the 426 would generate more heat. Plus if you run 12:1 you need some good ***** racing gas.

i would go with the 11:1 with either bore. if you do go 12:1 you may want to get a heavy duty connecting rod or atleast check your stock rod over real good to make sure its gonna hold up to the 12:1 piston.

yea i would be getting a carrillo heavy duty rod with either set up for reliability

If you go with the 426, get the 440 sleve and have it bored for the 426, that way the cylinder wall isn't as thin, and its much more reliable. Like others have said, you will want the heavy duty rod, and head studs. You may want to upgrade your clutch also;)
