Hi,
I'm from Granite City, but currently I'm at EIU in Charleston. I'm usually only home about once a month. The only place that I ride at of the ones you listed is St. Joe. I'm a trail rider only. Let me know if you know of any other trails to ride.

I haven't been to Splinter Creek since I rode MX with Paul Willis back in the mid 90's. I live in Collinsville, IL and normally ride at friends property.

I've been to Finger Lake's once before, it was a pretty good ride. Lots of steep trails. I've heard it's nearly unrideable for a sport quad after a rain tho. Still, I'd like to go back some day.

alot of times i leave my drive-way and ride all over the place, i prefer to ride legally though, when it snows, no boundaries.

I may go to Coulterville tomorrow and then LEOR on Sunday. Should make for a fun weekend.

If I go riding, I'd prefer to have permission before riding on someone's property.

I rode at Finger lakes over the summer. Those were some of the muddiest washed out trails I had ever seen im my life!! Some of the washout were big enough to swallow a bike whole. Me and my 450R didn't have alot of fun there....until we hit the mx track!!

If anyone is interested there is a club ride in Astoria, IL next Sunday and I am planning on going with a bunch of people. I've never been to this club's rides, but I know 2 weeks ago that they had close to 200 people show up. I think there are a lot of 4x4's but there are also some sport quads too. The track they are riding at is Brushy Ridge MX and they are an AMA Dist. 17 track and also have a ton of woods riding that is the gnarliest stuff you've ever seen in some parts. So, if you like hillclimbs and huge jumps, this is the place for you! I will have my white enclosed trailer with the **** Tech ATV (http://www.****techatv.com) logo on the side. I will be on my Blue Houser CRF450 or Yellow 400ex. Come up and say Hi if you are there. Here's the web site to the club that is hosting the ride http://www.wciorvclub.com

Its BULL S**T, LBL was closed today because of high water, and because of the Enviromentalist (sp) complain about how we are tearing up the ground (BULL DOOKY) Can we not just get a few thousand acres to ride on I mean G.D. People wanta save every single freakin tree. I hope they know that they had to take trees out to build there house!

Anyways we found a place to ride pretty close to LBL, Its called Paddys Bluff (650acres) Its a pretty good place to ride, They just need to have a few more trails cut threw the woods.

Anyways made for a good day of riding, we all kept 4 wheels on the ground!

I have been to chadwick a few times. Its a lot of fun if you like trails. there are a lot of rocks there, aftermarket skid plates are a good idea. When you get to the town of Chadwick southeast of springfield you stop at a convenience store called Kays and get your permits there ($5.00 per bike per day, or 1 year pass for $35.) You may be able to use the same 1 year pass at suttons bluff also, not sure about that. If you want to camp at Cobb ridge trail head you will need to get a permit here also

Be sure to get maps at Kays of the trails. There is 125 miles of trails so it would be easy to get lost without them. The trails are marked easy, moderate and expert.

When you leave Kays, go east out of town until you reach hwy "H", go south on H a mile or so and you will come to Camp ridge. You can unload here, there are primitave restrooms and picknick tables. Or you can keep going down H a mile or so and a gravel road called Lookout Rd will branch off to the west. If you go down this road you will come to Cobb Ridge campground. You can camp here for an additional fee and there is anouther primitive toilet. There are atv trails linking cobb ridge and camp ridge.

Mud is not much of a probem here for sport bikes, the ground is rocky and the water just runs right off the hills.

Chadwick can be busy on the weekends, you will see all kinds of bikes there, even several trials bikes. There are enough trails that everyone gets spread out and it doesent seem crowded, even if there are lots of people in the parking areas.

What you have to be carefull of is the trails are just wide enough for one quad at a time, so if you have it wound up going up a hill and meet someone coming down it can be kinda hairy. Also have to be carefull around some blind corners. We always shut our quads off before going up or down big hills, so we can hear if someone is coming the other direction. I always ride at the front of our group and keep the kids in the middle. Whoever is riding in front has the most risk of hitting someone else coming the other direction.

Also have to be carefull not to get in over your head on the difficulty of the trails. There have been guys who have gone in on the expert trails so far they couldnt get out, and had to have them airlifted out by helicopter. Dont want to know what THAT costs!

So this place isn't oneway? That seems awfully dangerous.

The trials can be ridden in either direction, you just have to be careful and use common sense. Stop and listen before going up or down hills and dont go blasting around corners at top speed. Even though the trails are one quad width wide, there is still room to get off the trail into the trees enough if you meet someone coming the other direction.

Its kinda like riding sand dunes, you dont just go blasting over the top of the dunes without knowing whats on the other side.

I think there are a lot more guys hurt on local motocross tracks, then are hurt riding the trails at chadwick.

If your coming from st louis take I-44 to springfield, where you take Hwy 65 south. Just south of springfield you come to the town of Ozark where you get off and take Hwy 14 east 7 miles. Then you head south on hwy 125 4-5 miles and you come to the town of Chadwick. You will see the convience store Kays on the east side of the road as you enter town and stop to get maps and permits. Follow my directions in a previous post on where to go from there.
