Why do utility quads lock in the front and not in the back?

And why are most of them 3-way lockers? what is a 3-way locker?

Because Utility quads are already locked in the rear from the factory. Each rear wheel gets the same amount of power just like a sport quad. I think there may be a couple exceptions to this rule, I think Polaris has 1 model that allows the rearend to unlock for tighter turning and to keep from tearing up lawns.

thanks! I have a friend shopping for a utility (probably going to go with the Kodiak450- its a pretty darn good deal) he asked me about it. Does anyone know the reason why they are called 3-way lockers?

I've never heard that term used. Is it on one of their websites?

It means you have 3 choices; 2wd, fwd or fwd locked
