I went to the MX track this weekend and realized my stock suspension sucks so I am thinking about upgrading. I am only 15 so money is tight and I was looking at Works Triple Rates w/o rezzies. I know there are tons of threads on this but I want some new replies. I just ride trails and sometimes some MX so do you think these would be worth the 400$? I realize that they will not be Elkas and I dont need them to be so dont tell me that I should just get some more expensive ones. Will they hold up for a few years or should I just find some used 450R fronts. The more replies the better, thanks alot

you will be much happier with works over the stockers. they are worth the price for someone just looking for a better ride.

too many people bash works shocks when they compare them to a higher end elka, pep or axis. at 2 or 3 times the price they better damn well work that much better

I agree with Pappy. I have works shocks and they are much better than stock. Are they as good as Elka's or Pep, probably not. But they are also alot cheaper than Elka's and Pep. Get the works and you'll be happy.

Yes, the Works will be a BIG improvement over stock!!! $400 is high for those shocks, if you've been quoted that then I would look elsewhere.

The works are a great shock for the money. Give C&D Racing a call we can save you some money on the shocks.;)

The works are very good for the money. I used them on my banshees when i raced them in the woods in mo. had a pair last me three years and two bikes before I had any work done on them. I did not go to the pep shocks untill I got lucky and found a used set from someone that was riding a banshee as well.
To tell the truth. I could not tell a diff in the peps from the works.

Works will be a night and day difference from stock. I cannot afford elka's so I cannot tell you how much better they are.

I have the 400ex front shock only conversion on my 300ex. I run 400ex works tripples w/o ressies and it felt like coming from a pinti to a corvette! lol I also got these for 265 bucks off ebay.

$400 is high for works without rezys you can get the trples w/rezys for right at $520 and the trplesw/o rezys should be about $325

yea they are a big improvement this girl has them on her 300ex that always ride in this parade down her and she let me ride it a few times and it is a way better ride than stock Big DIfernce

Works are alright i didn't mind them for woods but for the mx track they are too plush. They are better and worth it, but don't expect them to be diamonds once you get faster and start pushin them hard. I'm sendin mine to santo sometime before next season so he can re valve mine. A sprained wrist from bottomin out a 110' table can give you a crabby atitude of works.

Will the Works double or triple rates bottom out easy like the stockers do, cuz thats pretty much why i want some better shocks ( sick of bottoming out at the track )

I would just get the elkas w/o res. for around 500. You will be much happier.

They shouldn't as long as they are properly valved for weight/skill.

I know that in the dirtwheels project 400ex and project z400 shootout they put works on both of them so thats sayin somethin. And also i have a question. Do you really need the back works shock or should putting just the front ones on be all right?

you might try 450R shocks or getting your stockers rebuilt by someone like works or elka if you are on a really tight budget.

what will they do with my shocks if they rebuild them?

You can't rebuild stock 400ex front shocks. You can get the stock rear rebuilt to an SSD and setup for your weight and riding style however.

you'll definatly want to get the rear done .you will notice how crappy the rear really is when you get the fronts done
beleive me i did the same thing
i have works on the front of my ex and all i can say is that i didnt know how bad the rear was until then

Works are fine, there are just so many haters out there. The rear shock can be redone at a good price. LRD revalved and resprung mine for $280. It works great and Arlen has been awesome about helping me set it up.

well i have works shocks and they are good but not for heavy mx. I fractured my wrist with them this past weekend. I asked a good friend of mine if i had better shocks if it still would have happened and he said probablly not. For trails and ocassional mx they are better than stock but for all out mx i would not recomend them anymore.

how about all out mx on stockers!!! haha jk i wouldn't even think of that :uhoh:

dude im 16 and i kno what u mean wen money is very tight, insted of doin what some of these guys r sayin, ohhh just buy elka's for 500, ya thats gonna take a lil while to get, mean while u can buy a pair of work triple rate w/ rezzys on ebay for cheap but they may not be rebulit, u have to read there descipions, thats what i did, and i got my pair for 335, and i saved uo for a quite awhile, plus if u do want to upgrade u can sell those and put that money towards elka, or what not, just do what u think u should do

This is just my .02. I am thinking about starting XC racing and I am 34 years old. I do not want to sink a ton of cash into my quad.

So, I got works with rezzsies up front and a raptor rear. It makes a ton of difference from stock. Yeah, I know elka's are better, but if I like racing and have the extra cash I will get those in the distant future.

For now if you have all the power and your quad has terrible suspension you will not be happy, so me being on a budget, I went with works and a raptor rear. I have spent cash on rims, tires, exhaust, carb, etc. It can get really exspensive trying to put all the goodies on so spend it where you need it most.

Yeah I am not saying that the works are terrible. I am saying there are better out there. They are much better than stock and for the money you can't go wrong.

get the works they will be a big improvement and if you ever decide to start racing you can add the rezzies later on

Is Works worth it for new shocks for my 4x4 rancher 02? Does anyone else have a better suggestion?

My main goal is to get a softer ride cause the stock shocks that are on there now are just so rough on my back. Do you know if we have to send in our orginal shocks or can they make them from scratch?

Foxyangel0425- You should be able to just order the shocks. I'm almost positive the stock shocks aren't rebuildable. When you order the shocks make sure the builder knows exactly what type of riding you do and that you are looking for a nice plush ride. You'll be much happier with the works. They are much softer than the stockers.

No need to send in the stock shocks, they already have the specs. They will be setup for your weight and the type of riding that you do.
