Hey, I wanna know how in the heck a rear hub nut can get loose when there is a friggin cotter pin going thru it? The spacer cannot compress so how is it possible?? This is the second time it's happened on my +4 LSR axle...

A cotter pin will allow the nut to turn a little bit the cotter pin is really just to keep the nut from falling off. I always use an 1/2 air impact to tighten my axle nuts and have never had one come loose.

I would like to add one more trick. I second the 1/2" impact wrench, I do this also, but one thing that get over looked once in awhile is the size of the cotter pin, make sure it fits snug in the whole. If it fits loosely, this will give it enough "play" to allow it to work lose a bit. I just retightened all of mine the other day (not because they were loose) and used this method and it has proven reliable. A loose axle nut just means trouble down the road, it will eventually wear away the splines and you will be buying new ones.

So to sum up, tighten with an impact socket, and NEVER loosen the nut to line up a hole, always tighten, and use a cotter pin that fits tightly.
