Has anyone installed air scoops on a 300ex or 400ex? and if so did they help enough to make it worth it? thanks, check out my quad below and let me know what you think

I have wondered the same thing about those air scoops. I have heard from some people that they dont really do much and are mainly for looks, but they do look good though... For the 400 their like 60$... I think its a little much for 2 pieces of sheet metal, but would like to invest in them cause they look a lot racier...

It may be the picture but your back tire looks like it has way to much air in it.

I got mine from Moto-Man for $59.99 and recieved them in 2 days,,,,great service, I highly reccomen moto man. Most other places are selling the scoops for 69.99. And the blue piece in the pic isnt part of the air scoops,,its a mastercylinder guard from Nac's which is also a nice item.

The scoops are functional on a 400 because of the oil cooler located in the front. As for a 300 theres no coolers of any sort so they wont be as usful. But being that both are air cooled engines any way to increase the airflow over you head will benefit your engine.

exacttly, i dont think i would invest in them if i had a 300 unless 1. i have a 330 or bigger with out a oil cooler or
2. just care about the looks because i think they look bad*****

Rico since your my best friend and all,,,will you do me a favor?? Can you make a template of yours?? maybe trace it out on paper as if the metal wasnt bent then put lines where it needs to be bent?? if you can do this for me just let me know what I can do to make it up to you!!!
i could get my friend at the machine shop to make me some cheap!

04-16-2002, 02:54 PM
I can do that ,,but I garauntee it will be wrong,,cuz I'll just do it by eye,,they were a pain in the butt to install with the shock rezzies and steering dampner on there...PM tinner and see if he's got the specs,,cuz I know my measurements are gonna be wrong.

How have those Tinner scoops stood up compared to the OMF ones. Rico have you had any dents or any damage to them? Also they look a little smaller.

04-17-2002, 12:21 PM
yeah there smaller than the OMF,,but so is the price tag..:D

There holding up great,,no dents,,haven't come loose,,I'm glad I bought them from him,,and the price was sweet too,,,I can't discuss that,,under contract with Tinner..:D

I looked at Tinners and OMF. Bottom line is: I'm too dang cheap to pay folks to do stuff. So, I broke out the Autocad and started designing. Made a template and of course, I had to adjust it. They look good but are a little thin. (I made them from leftover aluminum gutter material.) Again, too cheap to buy the right stuff! I expect they will self distruct at some date. Do yourself a favor. Buy Tinners or OMF. $30 to $70 and you're done. The whole time I was making mine and kept stopping and asking: WHY? Then I would shake my head, shrug my shoulders and move on. I MUST FINISH! :macho :D

you know what im not too sure if you can get them for a 300EX i never saw them .............hey can you tell me were you got that fat seat ????

04-17-2002, 02:25 PM
No company sells them for 300ex's,,but Tinner makes them for 300ex's and has them on ebay.

Who's fat seat were you talkin about????

04-17-2002, 04:42 PM
Here's what I did with the leading edge of my front fenders, I made cooler scoops out of them. I'm fabbing up the mounting hardware for them as we speak.
