I have a 440EX with Houser +2 standard travel a-arms. My question is that is it worth it to get a long travel front end? My front end is only like 5 months old. All I do is motocross. Does long travel make that much of a diffrence? Be honest.

the long travel gives you the advantage of more travel and a lower center of gravity. This is achieved because the shocks are usually mounted at a wider angle (not so much of up and down).

Sence you already have that front end...........LEAVE IT.

nah man its cool. i'm not workin right now cause i'm at school at uconn. but for the past year and a half i've been workin at a local resturant for $10/hr, 25-30 hours a week durin school and around 45 hr/wk in the summer. it adds up pretty quick as long as you dont spend it on anythin else but the quad. before then my parents supported me and had started me off with a recon then a 300ex.

as for right now, i'm gettin money by selling off a bunch of the parts that i've got sittin around, and the parts off my yfz that i'm not usin for next year.

btw, i'm 18. with a little parent support and a lot of hard work, you can achieve a lot :macho

heres my yfz that i picked up for 7g

and my 400exs that i had to part out so i could buy it. (parents payed for the quads, i bought all the aftermarket parts)

as for front end setups, I have owned:
TCS triple rate with burgard +2 a-arms
Elka triple rate piggy back with stock length and burgard +1s
Roll Design LTs with PEP shocks
Roll Design LTs with Elkas (yfz)

1st of all SWEET QUADS MUFF!!!

I feel like a retard. I just turned 15 last sept. and I work about 5-10 hours a week. I am on a limited budget cause I have to by a truck. I would work more but I am in mostly sophomore classes and I am a freshman. The classes eat up all of my working/income time.

Don't forget to keep in mind how valuable those advanced classes are. No job at 15 can surpass the value of a good education. You'll be far better off in the long run if you keep at those classes all the way through college.

Believe me, I'm reaping the benefits of my education (Can you say $$$$$$?), just as many others on this site are! :)

Yeah but its hard being in this sport and trying to pay for the costs of it when all of the kids you age are into skateboarding and all of the affordable stuff.

first of all........

the term is long shock not long travel

if your still using a ball joint front end then it will only move so far

there for you just have a long shock

long shocks are easier to adjust

more shock to work with

the only true long travel front end on the market is

the pro trax

call baldwin or pep

ask them

First of all...
long travel shocks are easier to valve not adjust. there are such things as LT ball joints, that will pivot about 60 degrees. Hence the shock bottoming out before the ball joint runs out of travel. The only true "no bind" front end on the market is the protrax, unless of course you count the LSR outlaw spindle front end, that happens to be no longer avaliable, but hey who cares about that. anyway there are many true long travel front ends on the market, infact anything that runs a 19+ inch shock is well, considered LONG TRAVEL.

I think what he is saying is that you are not gaining any extra travel in the wheels them self. And that is true. thats why they mount the shock on the bottom of the a arms on a long travel shock setup. They get the extra room for the shock itself. The Pro tax set up is the only one where you will actaully gain wheel travel. There are a few A arms that mount the shock on top but they use the gull wing design to acheive that but the travel remains the same. If you really think about it, They would use the same shock mount locations and then make a longer throw shock to gain wheel travel. But even at that you would be limited to your frame hitting the ground before you would gain wheel travel. The only setup I have seen was a scissor design made by Dean sundahl on his banshee that actually had more wheel travel. But, I have had both and Long travel mostly helps in the small stutter bump stuff, You wont notice as much difrence on the big hits. But If I had the money I would do long travel all the way.
