I got my JE 13:1 piston from JH Racing who also did my earlier motor work too. He keeps them in stock along with various cams. You can reach Johnny at (918) 371-0101, he can answer any questions you have about them. He's my local quad shop and he does excellent work, knows what works also.

We're pulling right at 48 HP out of our TRXs with the mods you see in my signature which was build by JH Racing.

Mike he did not do any port or polish yet. Yes I have bought several things from C&D also along with JH Racing and both are very good companies. About the same price comes down to who has what in stock :)

so i can buy the piston for 150-180 and put it right in to my450...and have that much more hp

As Kazpr said, I dont have any port work or have the FCR carb. Not with just the piston, but a good combination of an exhaust, air filter, jetting, cam, and the piston should get you in the upper 40 horsepower range.

Also have to run race gas or a mix of race gas/premium. I had been running a mix of race gas/premium in mine since I havent been to the races and its ran fine. But, I ran out and had to use my TrackTek 105 oxygenated race fuel and it ran WAYY better running the race gas straight, which is expected.

If you can afford race gas and want good power from your TRX, go with the JE 13:1 piston and a good cam. You'll have more power than you'll ever need unless you are me, heh, its still not fast enough!!!

Oh yeah, I paid around $150 for my JE from JH Racing.

I got my 13:1 from White Brothers $165. plus tax. It's a 3-ring piston. I also cleaned out my head myself. It helps out low and mid range and didn't hurt top either. Cheap HP if you can do it yourself. Sparks has 12:1 and 13.8:1. Wanted Sparks 12:1 but got tired hearing 2 weeks. Good luck.:D

Mike you get everything that you need to install the piston including the rings. You might need to rejet depending on what you are currently running. Race gas is a must with that high of compression. It might be a good idea to have the cylinder looked at also while you have it out and cleaned up.

I have had zero trouble with mine and consider it money well spent for the gain in power.

I didnt put the piston in myself. I'm an old 250R guy too and they were easy but these thumpers have too much **** to deal with for me. I'm going to get a service manual soon so I can do it on my own later on.

Yeah man, you're ready to rip!! You get that piston and you will be pushing 48-50 HP, I'd bet! You'd be very happy. The 13:1 piston will compliment your sparks cam very nicely since the Sparks cam is a mid/top end cam.

Do you guys think that will be the piston sparks will use on his 500kit...cause i will be getting it in january..

i just talked to sparks they said there 13;1 piston is 209..je pistons makes there piston but sparks said they make it a certain way that curtis says makes more horsepower..what do you guys think about this? do you think it is worth the extra money to go with sparks. I usually have him do all my motor work and stuff like that because hes in my home town. i dont know what do you guys think.

Personally, I think you got to ask yourself how much extra horsepower could it really be making?? And if you really need that extra horsepower?? Do you race MX, TT, or XC? If not, I couldnt justify spending $210 on a piston when ya can get it for $150-$160 from other shops. Sparks does awesome stuff but you are going to pay the price. I race MX full time and I still couldnt justify spending $210 on a piston when I got it for $155 and I'm pushing almost 50 HP. If the Sparks piston makes 52 HP w/ the same mods, whoopy doo! You can always squeeze a couple HP out of your quad somewhere else. Thats just my opinion on the deal.....I'm not trying to down Sparks because the man is a genious when it comes to Honda performance.

The Sparks 13.8:1 piston is a single-ring piston and costs a **** load more! It makes awesome power but is not near as reliable as the 13:1 as it is a 3-ring piston. If you are a full MX racer and have the $$$ to buy the 13.8:1, its a good way to go. I'd say just go with the 13:1 piston....its makes great power!

Where can you get the 13:1 3 ring piston and how much? Does the 13:8 make alot more power than the 13:1 when its only .8 diff besides would`nt the 3 ring last alot longer and be more reliable?
What would be a good dropin cam to go along with this 13:1, this will be used for mx racing,I have a barrel of VP-12.
Is the HRC cam better and stronger than the Hotcams 2 and web cams drop in. Where can you buy just the hrc cam I don`t need the whole kit. I see Hotcams 2 on e-bay for $114 all the time,These 2 cams I have an interest in but having trouble making a choice, This is what I have already Duncan racing Fat-Boy 4,Curtis Sparks air filter kit /w 50 pilot,185 main, stock needle 4th clip and 2 turns out on the air screw. Thanks

Isn't the sparks cam better on the bottom end than the hrc. The hrc is better on the top. I thought they said the hrc isn't any better than the stock on bottom.

Remember, you almost Always Get What You Pay for. And I think its very safe to say this is true with Sparks.
They do make some custom pistons for Sparks, then Curtis has some things done to them after he gets them.
What is the 500 story at Sparks?
I have heard nothing of it.
I have a 500 kit with a 13.5 piston, 2 ring, light JE piston, and my custom JE piston, and I have a spare......

I got my JE 13:1 piston from JH Racing which is my local quad shop here in Oklahoma. It was like $150 or $155, I think. I got my cam from him too and it was like $135 or so. You can reach Johnny at (918) 371-0101. He can hook up ya up, he keeps pistons and cams IN STOCK. The 13.8:1 will probably make better power but the 13:1 is more reliable and cheaper!! I have the StageII cam and love it. I rode a TRX with a similiar motor setup to mine and he had the HRC cam, it felt the same as far as power. The Sparks cam is nice but $$$. You wont go wrong with the StageII cam or HRC, but I've yet to be able to find a place to get just the HRC cam. Just pick a cam and get the 13:1 piston.
