my buddies getting a 440 kit pretty soon w/no cam or anything else, im lookin to be able to beat him, have great throttle response and torque, also i want it to scream on the straight but i heard the problem w/the 440 like the 450rs is that they suck in the woods,u have to keep the revs high like a 2 stroke, what would u recommend as to eerything i need to buy, ill be riding mostly woods, climb, open train tracks but plan to race next spring

if you want to beat a 440 without a cam you can probably do it with just a cam and piston.

I have a 416 with a cam and valve job, carb, and it kicks *****. I am upgrading to a 426 this winter, to get a little more. But the 416 should do well against a bone stock 440.

Well this is what i am going to do. Titanium valves and rockers, heavy duty connecting rod, heavy duty cam chain, longer head bolts. I have already gotten a cam, port and polish, and carb. you may not need to go this rout but I am. I am also going to have my bottem end gone througth just to be safe. Good luck building and let me know how it goes

if you bore the stock sleeve to a 426 its gonna be real thin and run a lot higher risk of cracking. most builders recommend putting the larger sleeve that you would use for the 440 bore and boring it to the 426. its a lot less likely to crack or break the sleeve skirt.

My friend has a 426 w/hotcam stage II, k&n,and jetted and it rips pretty good. In a drag against me ... I can beat him... but not by a whole bunch.. prolly like 2 quad lengths. Thats what i would suggest you do.

The reason we bore out the cylinder is to get more power. The bigger you go the more power potential there is. The difference is noted in larger riders. Some people say that the lower bore numbers rev quicker. Change the gearing and that is all you need. 440 is da bomb!
