I tried searching to find more info on this topic, but nothing was striking a chord with my setup, so I figgured I'd just start a new thread.

I'm running an 03' 400ex with a slip on and filter/jetting and a 14t primary. I am looking for recommendations on a good paddle setup(make/model/size/# of paddles) for that level of power. I used to have some sand skates on my 250r many years ago, but there was a little more power on tap there ;). I'm less partial to straight paddles and would probably prefer something with a V in it.

So let's hear it... :)

Thanks in advance,
Chris

i run 21x 11-10 geckos on the rear and they hook up great. they are a v-groove and are pretty aggressive.

If you want v's you could try the sand skate 2's or Sand sharks (cheaper) or edges (lighter but more$). I've used all on a similar set-up ex and they work well. Their are lots of newer vee paddles out now too but I don't have first hand experiance with them.

I think the Sand Stars are the best thing going right now for a v paddle. They are priced very good and they give straight line hook up on par with Edge's and Sand Skates. I was pleasantly surprised with them on a 450R.

My $.02

i guess i'll chalk another vote up for the sand stars. i have about the same setup on my ex that you do, and they work great. i have mine on the ten inch rim (looks better, imo) and i wouldn't trade them for anything!!!

Thanks for the responses. So it sounds like I need to check out some sand stars. I heard one recommendation for a 10" rim, what about overal diameter?

Thanks for the feedback.

You can run 10' if you are not jumping big. If you are I would recomend running red label, or reinforced wheels. I like to run 8" wheels because they have more give on the sidewalls and are less prone to flat spoting. In sand having lots of sidewall does not effect cornering like it does on dirt. a 20" tire is a good general size. Some people like 21-22"s but I don't think they are nessisary unless you are just draggin and not doing any super agressive trail riding. I also have a hell of a time with blowing the bead with a 10" wheel. I had a flat from that every ride last time I went:scary:

I ran sand stars last time out. They were OK, although even better when I cut half the the paddle off. I felt they were too tall and robbed to much power. Next paddle will be haulers

I have the Sand Stars on my 416 and they feel like too much paddle. I hook up every where and my top speed seems to be down a little. Before, with my Sand Skate II's, I could pull hard in 5th. Now it bogs down in 5th.
