I am getting ready to remove and grease my 300ex swingarm bolt. It is an older machine and to the best of my knowlage has never been removed or greased. I am guessing that it is stuck so I am planning for the worse. I have heard of some people cutting the bolt, but on a 300ex the tube where it goes through the swingarm is solid, so it couldnt be cut. I was just wondering if anybody had any tips or advice. Thanks in advance!!!!

I worked at a MC/ATV shop back in the 80's for a few years and there was always a swingarm bolt that gave us fits. You can use a "BFH" but the problem is not messing up the threads. So we came up with an idea. We took a long metal rod about 4' long and 1" in diameter and melted a big hunk of lead to the end that weighed about 10 lbs. This enabled us to beat the hell out of stubborn bolts without maring any of them, this worked especially well with swingarm bolts.

some PB blaster and 30lb impact hammer with a pointy tip will work good. Just wear some ear plugs;)

What about a 400ex that you can't get out? Mine is stuck good and i've tried hittin it up with WD and waxin it with a hammer The bolt is junk so i'm gettin a new one anyway.

i had to beat it harder. i used a small sledge. there is no way you can hit it hard enough with a regular hammer to get it out if it is stuck in there.

I just did one that was the worst Ive ever seen. I ended up drilling out about 2 inches of each side of the bolt then it came loose with some hammering and a good punch. They drill pretty easy . I wish i had done that right away instead of wasting 45 minutes with the air hammer.

i know i spend more than 45 with a sledge too. mine wasn't rusted really either. i now have a greasable swingarm bolt. i hope it works much better.

me and my buddy just put new swingarm bushings/bearings in his 87 banshee...to my astonishment, it came right out with a little pb blaster and a small ball peen hammer...and it was the orig. bolt...if you want a fast bike, pick up an old banshee and rebuild it and bore it to .80 over on each piston...this thing RIPS!

Yeah the 400ex swingarm bolts are supposed to be greased regularly anyways. I've seen someone beat on it with a 10 lb sledge with no results!!!

How often do you have to do it on the EX after comin from my yamaha i did it every winter. I picked this ex used and he said it was sitting for a year so i figured somethings like this would happen.

The kid that took the sledge to his bolt, now does his almost everytime he rides!!! It's quite excessive, but I would say maybe when you change your oil, take the time to do that too.
