Well this is what I did. I left off the base gasket to my quad during this rebuild. I used the rubber o-ring. I sealed the base with hondabond HT gasket maker. Is there a problem with this setup. Also, Next time should I leave off the o-ring and just use the hondabond? I am doing this for more compression.

you don't need the o-ring. but, it shouldn't hurt anything being in there. i don't have mine in. you just need to make sure you don't overdo it with the hondabond. a really thin layer is enough. also, make sure none gets in any passages. you don't want to clog up oil passages or anything like that. i have this done to my bike right now. i have had good luck along with 2 of my buddies. plus, it is cheaper than buying a new gasket every time. the main reason i did it was not for the tiny bit of added compression but for a better flame travel accross the piston.
