what about like a 426 then stroke it to 440 ? Stroker would give you lots of bottom end. Also a different cam

my regular 426 runs very close with a stock yfz in a drag race. i am not too sure what is involved in flat track racing but you should be able to make a 400ex quicker than a yfz without a problem. the piped yfz's do pull on me in 4th, but that is either their strong point or it is my weak point. mine will level back off with them in 5th it seems. i think stroking it would be sweet. if i could install it myself, i would highly consider it on mine.

the 440 kit blows and is so overated

why not do a 416 bore and stroke it to a 450

doesn't make much sense to do a 426 bore and stroke to a 440 when you can do a 416 and take it all the way to the 450 why short yourself 10 cc's :huh

Got a buddy out here that flattracks a 440 stroker I've never seen him break down & I rode it once & all I can say is WOW what a difference!! His is a "true" 440 stroker :) He now rides it on the trail & it still does great!! He got a 450r also so I think he's flattrackin that this winter. I would go w/ the 440 OF COURSE everyone is gonna tell you NOT to do it........................you race w/ them LOL ;) I see TONS of 440's out here in fact thats what we are putting in our 400 someday(we've had the kit for over a year now  )

Good luck!! And remember it's NOT always the bigger CC's win it's how you ride also :)

there's a big difference between the 440kit and a stroked 440 :o

Dude I had a 440 national motor that laughed out loud at 450's of any kind!
If you do not have the money for the 450 you might be looking in the wrong place for the horsepower!!! The 440 built correctly is very time involved and expenssive, with balancing and blue printing of the motor is a must to get max power.

I truly beleive a 426 with a stage 2 hot cam at 13.25:1 and a Carillo rod, is going to run anything you are dealing with on the flat track! Especially if those 450's are stock, except for pipes and air cleaners.

If you have the money to build a motor why dont you just pay on the 400 and sell it! Then go buy a new or used 450. There are people dumping them everyday!

Although if you are serious I know of a guy that is trying to sell a stroked 400 motor that is considered a 450 bore but with the stroking and head work it is classified as a 463 stroker. Also if anyone finds out you have it most likely you have to run the pro class or unlimited.
