Next year I am going to enter my first race, the Ironman. What class can I enter with my stock 300ex and not get classified with YFZ's, R's and Z's - so Im not looking to have a huge disadvantage and get smoked. I will be 16.

They can be whatever you want a stock bike or a modified

As long as its not over 350cc and must use stock frame.

you also cant weld on the frame to gain more wheel travel, but any bolt on mod is OK

yeah, gussets are allowed b/c they dont add any wheel travel

In the rules it says you can not ad rezzies unless your bike does not come with them. Am I reading this correctly.
400ex no rezzies so you can add them!
450R has rezzies so they must stay on the bike.

Am I correct on how I am reading this?

I think you're reading the stock class rules, you are not allowed to add shocks w/ rezzies. You can only run shocks with rezzies if they are stock on the bike.

Riders may change front shocks on ATVs that do not come with rebuildable stock front shocks, but they may not replace the front shocks on ATVs that do come with rebuildable units stock (like the YFZ450). Only machines that come equipped with front reservoirs stock may run them.

You can run any setup in the sport class as long as displacement doesn't exceed 350 cc and you run stock frame.

Ok so I guess I am not understanding it now??

you stated the rule I am reading:
Riders may change front shocks on ATVs that do not come with rebuildable stock front shocks, but they may not replace the front shocks on ATVs that do come with rebuildable units stock (like the YFZ450). Only machines that come equipped with front reservoirs stock may run them.

A 400ex does not come with rebuildable front shocks (So, you should be able to add rezzies). A 450R does come with rebuildable front shocks (So, you can not change them).

CORRECT!

And then the last sentence really corn-holes me:eek:
If the only machines that can run them are the ones that come with them, then why do the even say: "Riders may change front shocks on ATVs that do not come with rebuildable stock front shocks"

I get more confused the more I read it. It is a double-standard!

those are the stock rules, but heres how they work. a 400ex does not come with rezzies, so you can put an aftermarket shock on them as long as they dont have rezzies, a yfz has rezzies, so you have to keep the stock shocks. and that is only on the fronts, all rear shocks must be stock

Ok the reason for the rule the way it is. They are trying to make it as inexpensive as possible and as close to stock as possible. the quads that do not come with rebuildable shock have very cheap shocks that wear out very quick. to keep go performance you would have to buy new shocks ever couple of races. they let you put rebuildable shocks on the those quads. they can not add resivours and they can not change adjustment or travel. They are trying to keep the quad as stock acting as possible. quads that come with resivours on them are already adjustable so they can not put aftermarket shocks on them!
