I have been reading alot about diffrent motors, to build up for me after this year, But from what iv decided i think that im going to go with a 416 bore, And a 4mm stroke, witch should put me around a 440stroker!!!, U still have a small/light pistion, that will rev quicker, and U will increase the stroke, whitch should increase tourge also!!! I think thats gona be my motor of choice, and then when im done with that, I might go bigger mabey 465/ or FST500!!! this might not help you, But thats what i have been thinking about for me!!!!

stroke it, port and polish it and get a good cam and pipe=tons of power.... youll love it.

Is the port and polish really worth it even with the piston and cam? I have heard not for a 400 but some say yes.
Thanks.

the 400ex doesnt flow that well, bigger piston means more air through same size holes. make em bigger and itll do that much better.

Thanks. Makes sense.

also it make them flow better. Intake side should be rough. thats to make fuel atomize better for better performance burning. exhaust side is polished and smooth. this is so exhaust flows smooth out and gets out faster to make the performance.

IF money isnt a big issue, You can put bigger valves, and rockers, and And do some amazing work on that head, and You will deffintally notice the diffrence!!!

BUt i think your right, U notice porting alot more on 2-strokes!!!

thats because they flow twice as much air. a 2-stroke make spower on everystroke where a 4-stroke only makes power on everyother stroke.

I have a TC 426 kit with everything in my sig. I have the complete kit from tom with everything except the stroked crank. If you are going to get a stroker I would reccomend the 426 size bore, headwork, and with the stroker it should really cook! TC has done stroker cranks on many EX's and so has Powroll so either of those companies are the ones I would trust to do it.

ya the stroker motors are torque monsters..im running the 426 piston and 4mm=450cc its great motor..and very fast. i recomend that..havnt had any problems for over a year now.

I have Laz's custom 452 stroker kit (puts you right at the class limit). Its a 416 bore which is nice for future overbores, with a +6mm stroke. Its a longer stroke than a lot of the other companies out there, but ive had no problems whatsoever and the quad's an absolute torque monster. I think the kit is pretty unique because ive never seen another like it. If you want to compete with the new 450's, this is the kit you want to buy for sure. Or if you want to do the 440 stroker thing, you could just go with the Powroll +4mm 416 bore kit, but the displacement isnt fully up to par with the new quads. With all the mods in my sig, my motor puts out close to 50 hp.

The best all around power EX motor I have ever riden was a 463 stroker. basicly the exact same thing as laz's 452 but with a 426 piston instead of a 416 piston. I am sure that will not make too much of a difference and the 452 will be a really good motor!!!! Go with laz he is at the top when it comes to motor builders in my opinion!
