I got my front and rear stock shocks revalved for +2 +1 a arms and for MX racing. C&D racing did it for me and they did an excellent job, couldn't be more pleased. They are very helpful and courteous. They used elka parts.

Finally the burgards came in, I didn't get everything aligned yet and also these pics are with the stocks wheels and tires, so it will drop more. These shocks really dropped the quad alot. I haven't had any ride time yet and it will be a while too.

That's great. It's awesome that we finally get stock shocks that can be rebuilt to 'aftermarket' specs, and cool that we have a site sponsor like C&D to hook us up. I'll go this route when I widen the R.

I guess I can't answer that I am not very smart when it comes to suspension. All I know is that they are triple rate. You should ask Colby at C&D. What is ssd?

Ok guys here is the deal. I have been testing this setup for about six months and have been really happy with it. This kit is a triple rate in the front and a dual rate in the rear both with lowered ride height. We revalve the shocks for your application ( xc/mx) stock or aftermarket arms. You really wont believe how well these shocks can perform when rebuilt and resprung. The first versions of this set used elka spring but we no longer use elka's springs for this setup, we have out sourced our parts from another vendor to serve exriders members better. We are also working on changing some internal parts on the rear shock to increase its travel. The turnaround time on this work is about a week.

If you guys have anyother questions feel free to call me

How long until you get these changes made? What kinda price also please? Will the rear work well with the GT Thunder link? Thanks alot Colby.

<edit> Also what is the comaprison of this setup vs. say a Elka?

Colby@C&DRacing
10-25-2004, 02:36 PM
The shock conversions are ready to go now. It will not work with the gtthunder linkage. We lower the ride height with springs he does it with a linkage. THere is no need for a new linkage with our setup. The problem on the stock rear shock is primarily valving and spring rate.

hsr
10-25-2004, 06:33 PM
Are the stock shafts the same diameter as the shafts that elka uses? So are these more comparable to a works shock or are they better than that??? And what brand of springs do you use to replace the stockers?

so your revalve/springs will make the rear end stop bouncing/bucking side to side on whoops/braking bumps then?... thats mainly what i want fixed.... that and the fronts since i already have +2 arms. i was considering the GT thunder linkage but after seeing this , i think i wanna have you guys do my shocks instead.

Colby@C&DRacing
10-26-2004, 10:39 AM
We do not replace the shock shafts, We revalve and respring all three shocks. We get rid of all the bounce and buck of the stock rear shock. and lower the ride height. These changes make the stock shocks a really nice shock for the money. Where else can you spend this little money and have a triple rate fully adj front and a dual rate fully adj rear shock?

sounds good but i would still recomend gt thunder linkage its 250 for linkage and revalve and rear springs run 90 if you want if for extended swinger.

i dunno what i want now, i was gonna go gt thunder, but now C&D are in the picture too. I guess we need some good reviews of both setups front and rear. Ive only heard about gT's rear, nothing on thier fronts yet.

hsr
10-26-2004, 08:23 PM
I think that the culprit of the rear end bucking/swapping on the 450r isn't necessarily in the linkage itselfl, but it could have a lot to do w/ the valving and spring rate of the stock shock, C & D's revalve and re-spring seems to be the way to go to me?

Martin Blair
10-26-2004, 08:24 PM
i dunno im going to run elka fronts with gt thunder XC rearend

hsr
10-26-2004, 08:46 PM
I've been trying to find the differences between C &D's revalve and re-spring and an elka or aftermarket shock. The stock shock is basically being converted to an aftermarket style shock, correct? The stock shocks are of very good quality if you really think about it. Showa is the same stuff that honda used on carmichael's factory bikes when he still rode for them. Now dont' get me wrong it was totally re-worked and had all of the goodies on it and everything, but showa is good stuff. And with a revalve and re-spring like C & D does, i think that it would be right on par with a good aftermarket shock, just my opinion.

ZRider400

i wanna see pics of them installed on the quad...to see how much lower it sits......etc

im getting the elka fronts and the reuilt rear and linkage from gt thunder the link and rear mod runs 250. And i get good deals from elka.

10-26-2004, 09:35 PM
it seems like a great deal, but it's useless if you're trying to set up your bike for MX like I'm trying. Is that right?

xsr_racing28c
10-26-2004, 10:28 PM
yea i wanna know if this set-up is ok for MX also... i am strongly thinkin about this set-up but with the lowered ride height , i dunno if it will be ok... i have pm'ed C&D a couple of times , but they havnt gotten back to me yet... i hope to find out soon so i can send them in...

hey powerstoker, what are you using yur 450 r for??? mx or xc?? let us know... also , so is c&d gonna still use elka parts or what are they gonna use, cuz i like the elka stuff, but i dunno who else would do that... .~Jason

RedRacer44
10-26-2004, 11:05 PM
Can you just have the rear shock done? I already have Elka fronts but might consider doing the rear shock mod if I can have it done. I already have the GT Thunder MX linkage and revalved rear shock but I like the dual rate spring set up.

Might have a MX GT Thunder link for sale if anyone is interested :)

You can't use stock shock length with long travel arms so you have to buy aftermarket 19 inch shocks with long travel a-arms.

Colby@C&DRacing
10-27-2004, 12:19 PM
to answer the question no we nolonger use elka springs. I am going to switch over to TCS springs for these kits. I have been reading on the trx450r.org site and some guys have a concern with there being a problem with a lowered ride height and there being less exposed shaft length. This is not an issue with the correct valving. This setup has no bottoming issues and no bucking issues. I race both MX and XC with this setup and love it. Of course I know you guys are waiting for someone else to do a review so as not to just have my opion which is smart.

I have read that the GT Thunder link gives you more travel. I don't think that's even necessary for XC? I was going to do the GT Thunder rear shock re-valve and link thing and leave the fronts alone. But for another couple of hundred bucks I like the C&D re-spring and re-valve of all 3 shocks. Plus, I will not have to worry about modifying the air box and skid plate. About how much lower will the C&D pkg. make the 450r sit? Thanks, Doug

I have the GT Thunder MX link and revalve....it dropped my quad's ride height almost 2 inches, from 7 3/4 inches to 6 inches. GT Thunder setup works wonders....I'm going to have to see some serious reviews over this setup (mainly concerning the rear) before I switch from my GTT setup.

yes, would somebody please try this rear shock out so we all can figure out what we want to do. I was leaning towards the gt thunder setup due to the increased travel, but i like the triple and dual rate springs of C&D.......

Sorry for the delay in responce guys. We have been out of town since last wednesday preparing for the 12 hours. As stated before this setup works great for MX and XC. The cost for all three shocks is $550 installed. As far as pics I can't take any right now our 450 is stripped to the frame being powder coated. We had a Team at the 12 hours this weekend running my shock conversion in the A class they finished 12th. there is a picture of there quad in the 12 coverage they are team quadgods. Our shock conversion lowers the bike between 2 and 2.5 inchs

Colby@C&DRacing
11-01-2004, 09:27 AM
There is really only one difference the rear now has a better threaded preload adjuster. I would not have changed anything but I was forced to look elsewhere for my parts, which forced me to increase the price.

Hey guys, I just finished the 12 Hours Of ATV America on this conversion, We really enjoyed the set up, it took the hard hits and braking bumps with ease, and fatigue was not an issue.
I cannot post pics on this sight but I am sending Colby some pics of the quad after the race with no clean up, as you see it is how it finished..... Z
I reccomend this set up if $$ is an issue as it is for me, though it is not like the full blown +1 long travel, it is just as good as the TCS ZPS I have on my 400ex wich cost me double what C and D Racing is charging
