i heard that someone made a homemade turbo for his car out of a hair dryer.but my freinds said it only made about 5 morehorsepower. I know thats not allot on a car but a 400ex would feel a differance. anyone hear of this?

The idiotic ideas that some people come up with to increase horsepower. Computer fans? A hair dryer? Seriously...

How much does a hair dryer cost? $20? If it actually worked, don't you think somebody would be marketing this idea and selling it for $50, making 150% profit?

5 hp for $50 is dang cheap. I guess the only reason you don't see it is because IT DOESN'T WORK!

actually a tornado air intake would probably up the horse a little but not a whole lot because the turbulence and twisting of the air increases air speed and fuel atomization which helps combustion and in turn helps performance. if you don't believe me hollywood dirt productions has a mod that does the exact same thing as a tornado air intake, its just bassically machined into your carb though.

So let me get this straight... you stick something in your intake that blocks off 90% of the volume for the air to go through, makes it go through a device that spins the air but slows the air charge down. That rotating air makes the typical 45 degree bend from the intake tube in through the throttle body, bounces off the walls of each intake runner, hits the valves and is STILL spinning? No way, I call bs.

In order for me to believe this kind of claim I'd have to be in the dyno room and see 6 pulls with consistent gains before I'd believe it.

Btw, did you guys know that most newer automotive heads now have a spiral port design that AUTOMATICALLY causes the air to be more turbulent there fore increasing atomization? This is the same exact thing that the Tornado Air claims to do. Oh, I know, the Tornado Air helps it spin even more air!

What's the difference between Turbo and Supercharger?

They are both forced-induction systems. The Turbo is driven off the exhaust, while the Supercharger is driven directly from engine power.

A hair dryer isn't driven off the exhaust, therefore it would not be turbo. I'm not sure what you would call it, other than an idiotic idea, but it doesn't follow the definition of "turbo"

so a hair dryer..... right, so if you infact shuved a hair dryer in there you'd end up blowing very hot air in an alreddy hott motor... bad idea......... so, if you took off the thing that heated the air, wouldnt you just end up with the smaller version of the computer fan idea? also, youd end up pushing in the same amount of air in at idle compareds to WOT, I'm pretty sure you'd burn that motor down in no time.

I meen I used to come up with some bad ideas, but this one is just over the top.-darren

A hair dryer would not be able to keep up with the CFM demand that a motor would require. In order for it to keep up with the demand it would require so large an amperage draw that it would drag the alternator down, which would in turn draw more horsepower to turn, there by defeating the purpose of the whole thing.

Whoever came up with the b/s about the hairdryer is gay and needs to go hug somebody.

I know turbos arent light but a 20lb system. man thats kinda heavy. just go naturally asperated and stroke it. cheaper and more H.P.

or bore stroke and tubro theres an idea the best of both worlds

Screamin440

That would be a nasty setup if you already had a big bore kit. It would probably be close to 50hp and at a MUCH higher rpm. :eek2:

Did anyone look at the Raptor kit? It's putting out 60hp.

its not cheaper (in most cases) nor do you get more power from boring and stroking compared to a turbo. wait till my buddies turbo 416ex is done and then you'll see :)
