I was looking at buying to 10's for my truck. I got a 94 GMC seirra reg cab, shortbox and was looking to put a system in it. Right now iam deciding between kicker and JL. I was wondering who makes the better subwoofers.

Can't really tell you what the difference is, but Kicker gets my vote, seeing as how that is what I have. 1 Kicker L5 with a 900watt amp and that thing sounds perty:D

it really depends on the install and what model of each you are wanting...but in general kicker is better IMO. JL is waaaaayyyy overrated.

I love my JL 8w3's ....... I love my JL XRs up front too .....

Honestly I have had both and both performed well. I think JL is more a SQ sub vs the Kicker is more a SPL sub .....

Yeah.. i heard one 10" JL w7 w/ Jl 1000 watt amp in some big *** box at my local sound seller and it shook the whole place.. that thing was loud. My sister has 3 10s wit a phoenix gold 2500 watt amp... its pretty loud..

Whats the price difference between kicker and Jl? i know JL prices.. kinda wanting to know a bit more of kicker now

Actually, I find that JL is way underrated.

I do have a SoloBaric L5 10" in my truck with a Punch 500.2 pushing it. I have it in too small of a box and I have the gain turned down so that it matches the mids and highs. It sounds GOOD though. :D

JL way over rated? lmfao....

Kickers blow easy? lmfao....

JL are far better than kicker...go with JL if you can afford it...if your on a budget...get kcikers, either wya...you wont be disspaointed as long as your running the proper setup...

everyone thinks jl is the stuff....look at the db drag competitors....do you see any of them using jl....no!...look at any of the SQ events...are any of the people worth anything running JL....no! for the price that you pay for some w7 or something you could buy an RE or DD and be way louder and prolly sound better

i personaly have a kicker in my dakota...ive pushed it to its max...it hasnt blown yet. i like it..its more than enough inside the small cab of my truck

my friend has 3 10' jl's.....i dont give a **** what anyone sais about them, i have never heard anything beat that hard, or sound as good. ive heard a lotta systems too...some have came close, but were distorted...very bad.

just remember...just becuase someone you see on TV is running something, doesnt mean its the best for the over all every day consumer.

im not sayin that i run a particular brand just because everyone else is running it...im just sayin that jl imo is not worth the money that people are spending on them....oh and uh if think 3 jl 10's are loud then you havent then you havent really heard a "real" system...make a trip to bama and ill let you hear 8 jbl gti 10's off 4 bp1200.1

Warnerade
10-20-2004, 07:49 PM
you think you'd wanna listen to that everyday driving down the road? i highly doubt it. difference between competition..and stuff you can enjoy listening too driving down the road.

btw i dont "think" its loud, i know.

IMO get a top of the line treo engineering, or maybe a memphis, but if u have to get kicker or jl, def go with jl, believe me i had a pair of kickers and mine sounded like 6x9's when compared to my buddies jl's

JL all the way! My brother had one JL audio 10 in his prelude and was like a back massage insted of music. lol Im not sure what size the amp was but i think it was around 2500? Im not sure. I know im puttin JL's in my truck when i get it! :D

way overrated is right, apparently none of you guys have experience in this field. i have talked to a few professionals about it, and they all told me to go kicker because they are made better, sound better, and other technical stuff that i forget. but also ive heard plenty of jl's vs kickers and i think even one kicker sounds better than 2 jl's.

Bama, your wish is my command :D

the only sub JL has ever made that i have respect for is the W7. the rest of their subs are stuck in the past...junky spiders that lock down way before the motor is topped out, tiny round copper voice coil windings, flimsy cones, just sub par parts IMO for what they cost. long throw, flat BL curve topology motors are the way of the future, and the W7 is the only sub in JL's line up that fits that mentality. only problem is, Adire Audio's XBL^2 topology kills it IMO. the JL may have more linear xmax than the Adire Brahma or the RE XXX, but to my ears, both the RE and Adire sound better. of course, if you wanna talk xmax wars, RE and Adire can do 4x the excursion of the W7 with their XMX and Apocalypse respectively

12 inches of xmax :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

This is all a pointless argument ..... its all based on personal opinion.

IMO ...... JL is more SQ based and Kicker is more SPL based. Your not going to see guys taking JL subs to SPL drags and stuff just for that reason.

Personally I am more of a SQ guy. Of course I like volume too, but its gotta sound good at the same time. Hence why I have an all JL system. JL makes a nice quality product, especially for daily drivers. I'm sure there are other products that are cheaper and work just as good ..... but there are none that I know that are sold at the local shop (that I try to support as much as possible, buy locally, spend locally).

Definately JL, the quality is much, much better.

I strongly suggest JL!!!! I have 2 12W3's in a Dakota. One of my friends has Kicker and he is jealous! Cleanest subs on the market. You won't be disappointed! ;)

im running 2 JL w7s, 2 500/1 amps, and 1 300/4 amp in my s10. with JL componets.. tweeters.. cross overs .. everything JL. It may not be the loudest thing ever out there. BUT it is the cleanest sounding. My friend has 2 12'' Kicker VRs or comps.. one of the 2 with a 1200watt aquistic amp. and yea it pounds like all hell. But it just doesnt have that clear bump to it as my JLs have I suggest JL all the way.

Yeah it was a solo x. Don't know about the mic, but it was hanging from the rear view mirror.

does JL still make the W-6? I had 3 12" W-6s in my old Toyota pickup and they killed, ran by an old school Orion 225. Anybody remember those amps? Rated at 50 watts but pushed close to 500 watts bridged at 0.5 ohm.

Opinions are opinions! Both make very good subwoofers. Both actually have pretty similar prices if you compare apples with apples. I have heard both sound good and both suck at one time or another. The install and vehicle determines most of what you hear. Check out www.treoonline.com. Treo makes some really nice equipment that sounds awesome. It is also very affordable.

Remember, KICKER does sponsor some pros. They support our sport, we should try and support them.

yes they do still make the w6, they look like the w7's now. they are w6v2d4's i believe. they sound pretty good IMO. if i were to get back into subs i would seriously think about gettin 2 12's in the H.O. box. they pound and sound realy clean.

anything JL will pound and sound clean. even there lowest models, may not be the loudest but they are very clean sounding. very very clear.
