I'm rebuilding my stock 400ex and I'm thinkin about geting it bored over to a 426. If I do this do I have to have heavy duty valve spings and rocker arms? What about on a 416?
Thanks alot for any info.

THe 426 will fit in the stock sleeve but I wwould not recommend it, that is the last overbore they can have reliablity issues in the stock sleeve. THe 416 is a great kit in the stock sleeve. You don't need new springs or hardened rockers as long as you go with billet cam

JE or Ross is a good choice in piston and you can order it from C&D racing

I agree with both

I am told that going with an aftermarket carb dramatically helps the power too.

i am also interested in the 416 set up. a couple of things do i have to get a cam or any thing or can i bore and put the piston in? Also compared to stock power wise from low end to top end how do they compare? is it close or is it like good buy? Just out of curiosity what is need for a reliable 426?

i would do the 416 because it is simplier and easier to do. this way you don't need to worry or mess with the sleeve. you can run the stock cam. however, the bike will open up much more with an aftermarket cam. the cam you get determines where you have most of your power. i wouldn't get a piston without a cam. they both together make a big difference over a stock bike.
