I just picked up a 2000 300ex for a good price but it has been abused to say the least. One problem is that one of the crankcase bolts is supposed to be 6x38, unlike all but one of the rightside crankcase bolts (most are 6x32) but apparently he lost or screwed up the original bolt and put a 6x32 there. So it obviously doesn't screw in and there is oil leaking out. I plan on picking up a new bolt monday. Also there appears to be a little oil leaking out from a 1" round plug on the right side of the engine, forgive me but I do not know its proper name. Can anyone tell me what this plug is and what the possible problem is here and a remedy? Also, can I just replace the 6x32 bolt with a 6x38 or should I check for damage. Any help is greatly appreciated.
