At a xc race this weekend I hit something sharp and put a 1/2" slash on the sidewall. These tires were brand new and cost a bit too. Is there any way to repair this?

I didn't think you could repair a slash in the sidewall. I thought it would flex too much for any patch or plug to hold. I know on an automotive tire you can go like 1/4" below the tread on the sidewall and plug it but that's all you'll be able to go due to the flexing.

yep just plug it, i have a 2 inch cut in my sidewall so i stuck 4 rope plugs in it and holds air fine.
