you could do this:

Dig whole in ground, fill it with foam, just packaging **** and put a tarpover it when not in use

that might be cheaper

A lot of money to build a safe decent one... not one that your going to kill yourself when you land in

that might be cheaper hell i'd be afraid i'd over shoot the damn thing if its jus a hole in the ground or that a snake or somethin i dont want in it would craw in and bite me. i used to do that kinda stuff into a pond but it was a pain to strip down the bike and clean it out. its worth a try though

You said you need people to chip in to help you pay for the pit, now you say it won't cost too much to build(27,000):huh Am I missing something???

27,000 just for the foam....then your going to need to build a base to put the foam in which will take so much wood.

Okay, if you built a pit that's 24 x 12 x 8 you would need 18 sheets of plywood. I believe 5/8" plywood is running about $20.00 a sheet. You're at $360 for the plywood itself. I can't imagine what kind bracing you'll need. You'll want at least 4 x 4 posts for structural support and then 2 x 4s for bracing in between the 4 x 4s.

I would say you're safely looking at $1,000 in lumber in order to do this project.
