should you really replace the timing chain if it is a year old ? i would think that if it looks good then leave it alone .any ideas??

if it looks good then leave it alone. as long as it doesnt have free play in the links and isnt stretched then its should be fine.

who told you to change a timing chain every year. ... never heard that one before.

i read it in the directions for the hot cams stage 2 seemed a little strange to me two but thought i would ask anyway thank for the replie.

I say replace it if your already in there tearing stuff apart. I just replaced my 400ex one with a crf450f one which is the exact same as the heavy duty ones that most companies sell. It only cost me 26 bucks compared to 80-100 bucks at other places

I'll second that. Its also more confidence with having a bigger chain. I did the swap as well, $26.

for 26 bucks u cant go wrong there and well wirth the extra aggrvation on have to replace it later
