i was wondering if the 250ex had good low-end/midrange power and torque or if teh blaster has more? (both 04's)

250ex's have good low and mid range, blasters dont have much low end more mid range (still not a much as a 250ex) and way more top end than a 250ex. the blaster would def. win in a drag. the power on both bikes are very different, but both are easy to ride in the woods, but if its a beginner, i would choose the 50ex for them since overall its an easier machine to operate

my 250ex has decent power all thought i want more of it. enough power for me to nail it in second and go up into a wheelie. ive never ridden a blaster but i dont think they have as much low end power as a EX but are faster on topend.

the blaster does have less low end, but being a two cyle, it requires a much different riding style than a 250ex, so you'll hardly notice it b/c you wont be down in the rpms much

so you say the 250ex is a better trail bike for mud and stuff?

anything is good in the mud jsut keep it opened up in 2nd;) but as far as trails go i think id much rather have my 250 as opposed to a blaster, but the blaster does have alot better suspension than the ex and u can mod a blaster alot more than an ex and their farely easy to mod too. just my 2cents

is it true that the 04 recon and 04 250ex are the same engine wise?

im pretty sure all 250exs and recons have the same engine. the 250ex is just tweaked a bit more i think and is a lot sportier than the recon. my cousin has a recon and the front end jsut feels really big on it and is hard to steer i think when i rode it. i always beat him in a drag too by a couple bike lenghts.

because im getting an 04 foreman S and my dad said i could get a small 250 quad so im thinking bout the 250ex

if u like to trail ride and play around a lot u cant go rong with a 250ex. they are wheelie machines and they do pretty damn good in mud holes too:p reverse is a great thing to have to even tho a blaster weighs next to nothing and is easy to pull. another thing to think about is that a blaster is gona take more maintance and is a manual clutch as well but the ex is an auto clutch and easy as cake to drive. and jsut one more thing, i think the blaster is kick start and the ex is eletric.

yea it would be a trail fooling around quad. ive seen some pics of some 250exs going thorugh some pretty nasty mud lol and i want one with little to no maintenance (cept the regulars) so ill prolly go with the 04 250ex! thanx;)

np man happy to help. one last thing lol, the ex requires very little maintence besides air filter/box and oil changes really, no greese zerks or any thing to worry about.

can you tell me some of the stuff you drove your 250ex through if its not a problem?:ermm:

pretty much the only thing i havent driven my 250 threw is big and tall sand dunes. ive plowed threw thick @$$ snow and mud like it was grass. it is a great woods bike, does excellent on any kind of dirt , soft, hard or anythign in between. hill climbs great and has decent power and runs pretty damn good for a smaller 250. the stock rear tires arent the greatest but i got some similar to tires called 'Vipers' and they work like a magic charm.

if u need/want to know any thing else feel free to pm me any time.

There is a current magazine on the stands with a complete review. Can't remember which one. I read most of it and the review seems fairly accurate. I've had mine for 1 yr. now (04) - Oct. - Oct. It has been a good machine, no parts purchased yet. It looks like it may need front brake pads before anything else. All I have done is oil changes and a K&N filter. The stock foam filter is actually fairly good (dual element foam).

My wife has ridden it, 14 yr niece, 8 yr. son. Son has xr70 but rides well on the 250EX. Fits lots of riders well and easier to start out on.

Also have XR250 bike. The bike is faster and has more suspension travel but the quad jumps easier (because of less suspension). The quad has good low end and seems to run through the gears quickly. When you get to top speed it seems like it needs another gear.

It is good for tight trails, narrow trails, exploring/making new trails (slower speed stuff). It is fun in snow, ice, and water holes which are not soft (firm sand bottom). I have gone through water deeper than 400EX could make it through (using a wheelie in the water, knees on seat, to keep the snorkel higher). Exhaust was under water and bubbling away. If you get in too deep of water you can jump off and it will float up, keeping water out of the airbox.

It can handle snow which is not too deep (maybe up to 8"). Works better with a snow trail cut by another quad, if snow is too deep. Chains can be purchased which would probably help. If you do get stuck, it has reverse and if that don't work it is only 350 lbs, so it can be lifted one end at a time.

Overall as you can see I am pleased. It isn't fast like the larger ones, but it does a lot more than I expected. You can even put on a hitch and pull sleds in winter and small utility trailer for work around the house.

A lot of people give it a bad review because it isn't as fast and powerful. But if you like things other than drag racing and like no maintenance (except oil changes and air filter and valve adjustment), then this a good quad. I'd take another before winter for other riders but don't want to sell my bike and don't have room to store it.

sounds like a nice quad :) i was just wondering what is the difference in the 250ex and the recon?

YFZ450Ridr
10-28-2004, 05:35 PM
really the only difference is that the 250ex is lighter, new plastics, 250ex's engine has different gear ratios or soemthin-runs a little better. tires are different and it when u sit on them the 250 sits higer and is stiffer.only differences ive found from mine and my cuzs recon.

are the 300exs and 250exs the same pretty much?

YFZ450Ridr
10-28-2004, 05:57 PM
yes and no. the 300ex has much better suspension, a clutch-not auto clutch like the 250, got more power runs better and from what i hear respondes pretty good to modds and has excellent relieability. i have herd a few people that the reverse thing is a pain some times to get it in and out. i dont have seat time on one tho so i cant really say a hole lot about one.

are they the same power wise pretty muchly though?

-sorry for asking so many questions lol:ermm: :D

300ex is a racer. 250ex is a beginner/play quad. I have a 250ex and love it. The 300 has a clutch and can be modified. I would take the 300ex over my 250.

the shocks are OK. ive landed some pretty rough stuff with em. but now that im bigger than i was when i was 12, 5'8'' 175 now, them shocks aint cuttin it. for smaller guys and smaller jumps they do fine but nothing big.

as far as power goes between the 300 and the 250 i would say the 300 has a considerable more amount of power than the 250. much more hiperformance and alot better suspension and not to mention a clutch which i would LOVE to have on my 250ex. hope this helps.
