I beleive that if you try to register a new account with Ebay and use one of those free email accounts such as Yahoo, they want a credit card to verify you are who you say you are. If you register with an email account like SBC, AOL, Earthlink, ect. then I don't think that ask for a credit card. Anyone can sign up for a Yahoo account with false info since it's free.

It is their way of verifying people and to try and keep scammers from registering new accounts with bogus information and then ripping people off. With a CC on file, they at least have a way of tracking someone down if they rip someone off.

HTH.

My ebay account was set up using a Yahoo email account and I didn't give them any CC info...

stupid msn and hotmail will not let me sign in with my old address, it will tell me to sign in with a .NET passport.
