is it true that the new fibers need to be soaked in oil for about 24 hours before installing it??

i have never soaked them in oil. but you do need to coat them in oil before installing them.

They do need to be soaked, but not for 24 hours. The trick is to put them in fresh oil when you begin the clutch side removal. By the time you get all that situated, they're good to go. I waited about 30/45 minutes for mine to soak.

I'm not trying to push my way of doing it on you in any way...but think about it...

Thousands of clutches go in every day. I guarantee over 98% do not let sit 24 hours. If they needed to be soaked for that long of a period....you'd hear about it from all the people who had ruined their clutches by not soaking 24 hours.

Just something to think about.

if you would have had that clutch soaking when you made this post, it would be ready to go no matter what. i usually like to soak mine for a bit. i can't tell you what is the proper way. i know mine didn't get soaked for 24 hours when i had a dealer install it several years ago.

We usually soak in oil for 30min. like they said, start soaking before you teardown frictions only and install without wiping.
The oil that is left on frictions is plenty for steels.
