Tired of 450's

Is anyone else tired of seeing all the 400ex and z owners getting rid of there quads to get a YFZ or a 450R? All I see at the mx track anymore is the 450's. I beat quite a few of them and my bike is close to stock.
How many others still ride mx with their Z's?

I'm still riding my Z, and keeping up with any Yami or Hondas. The only reason y people get yami, is because of the name.same as Hondas..that's my 2cent..

im not really sick of them but i do think they are over rated in some aspects. i can keep up with people riding the 450s on my 400 and am on a quad worth half the money. i think the 450's are really nice and all but people selling z's and 400ex's with 10grand into them for 450s boggles my mind sometimes

my friend jsut got a 450R and we ride woods alot and we are both pretty decent riders i think and i can keep up with him just fine on my 250ex in woods, but on the flats thats a way different story:p :p

It is just that people don't usually max out the potential in their bikes. If you can't ride a 400 then you probably won't be able to ride a 450. For the arverage joe that likes to MX the bike is only about 20% of the what you bring to the track and the other 80% is riding abilities.

I ride mx on mine and Im pretty much stock too and i keep up with the 450 pretty good in my opinion.

I didn't by a 450r for the power because my 416 still hangs with the 450's I bought it because I like the feel of it. to me it feels lighter and more should I say nimble.

i agree, it doesnt make sense for alot of these folks to lose so much money just to get a newer quad, but for some its worth it

I would love to have a 450 but that would only be if someone gave me a good deal on mine. I don't have much money invested anyway. If I did have a bunch of money in it, I couldn't justify taking the loss.

That is what I am saying too. I have had 3 Z400's and none would hang with my YFZ.

I know my Z will beat yours any day...How do I know is because over here so far no one has beat me on a drag race.. Now if we are talking about a stock Z, then yeah it's all yours...:blah:

I am not saying the Z is faster. I am saying if you have a lot of money invested in you Z, why would you sell it and start all over?

It isn't all about speed. My buddy pulls on me on the straight aways b/c his YFZ is a lot faster. I take better lines, stay lower on the jumps, and hook the burms faster.

I am trying to say you if you want to be faster on the track don't just spend a bunch of money on a new quad, Learn to ride.

I agree that rider has alot to do with it but you cant say that the quad doesnt have something to do with it too.

If a world class sprinter put on a pair of brand new stiff penny loafers and raced us average duffs, he would beat us. However, as as average duff you dont settle for a pair of penny loafers if you are wanting to begin sprinting competitions with the view that you must first learn to run.

The reason i think that people r seling z's for 450's is that they want to be like everyone else and hang with the crowd. Like ur buddy gets one and hes like haha i have a 450 and u have a 400 im way faster now u want to get one as well. and i Have to say that the yfz 450 in my opinion has more problems than the z.

In all honesty, I could really care less about all these people buying up them 450s, I think they're nice. One of the really good things is that it helps perpetuate the growth of the quad industry. If you think buying one of the 450s will make you a better rider, then be my guest. But let me tell you this, if you're one of those really competitive riders and we're on the track together, I swear you better beat me. I mean, I better have my @$$ handed to me on a silver platter, with a side of roost in my face.

But all in all, JUST RIDE!!!

yeah i would get a 450R but i would rather save the extra money and put it in to the Z...i think the Z is an awsome quad and i like to see Z's in a sea of 450's...and there cheaper....:eek: :cool:

My opinion on this is this.......I am getting pretty fast through the woods on my KFX with stock suspension. I get faster all the time. If I were to get on a 450R or any other "faster" quad, I am betting I would not be much faster if any at all until I ride it as much as I have ridden my KFX. Now, if I ever get some better suspension and a steering stabilizer and some tires, I think I can be alot faster. MX may be a different story...maybe a bigger difference would be noticible right away, but through the woods, I find myself not even able to use all the power my KFX has sometimes. So I guess my point is this, if you are expecting to just trade for a 450 and hop on, and instantly be alot faster than you were on the 400, then you probably have another thing coming. Unless you are an outstanding rider, or have money to burn, you are far better off to mod the 400 that you are already comfortable with. Just my .02.-------

P.S. Oh yeah, and like was stated in an earlier post....."JUST RIDE!!"

I bougth my yfz after years of saying I would never own another yamaha I`ve had 5 400exs an one z400 an I still would buy the 05 400ex over the 05 450r,But I do love my yfz450 I think it handles an sets like some of the 250r`s Ive had. My ol`lady liked the z400 better than any of them.Which was a good quad except the cracking frame.I think no matter what your riding you should be smiling :D It beats not riding think of the poor guys riding wore out 3 wheelers an the worse kawasaki mojave`s because thats the only thing they can afford But there still smiling an too them it`s the fast quad in the world,Just be happy that you got something to ride no matter what:D Hell it`s better than having a crack pipe in your hand And having nothing.Just my 2 cent`s not that anyone will give a rat ***

I really don`t think its fair to compare a race quad to a sport quad. espically with a 50cc advantage. But me when I take my 400 and beat a 450 either on a track, trail , dragracing or what ever is just priceless. then i put her in reverse, see you can have your cake and eat it to :devil: Plus I belive some people is just got to have the latest and in there mine the greatest thing out. It must make them feel more secure ;) .But anyways when and if suzuki comes out with there 450 quad people will be jumping ship again.:blah: :huh

the sole reason i bought my yfz was because my z400 was unreliable. it just broke every week. my buddy had a z at the same time and never had a problem. we maintained these quads at his fathers shop always at the same time. not saying suzuki is junk, just didnt have a good experience w/ it. the same might go for someone w/ a yfz,450r,raptor............... most of todays machines are very reliable, so saying a yfz has more problems than a z400 is useless info for someone looking for advice. by the way, my yfz just turned a year old and hangs w/ my friends fresh yfz. not bad.:)

I belive it comes down to the rider, A great rider on a stock machine would still whoop a novice on built machine.

the 450s are pretty quick stock, but alot of it is rider, i have a Z400 that makes 49hp thats built to the hilt, it will smoke 450s all day long, every quad has a purpose but hands down the z is the best trail machine for the average every day rider

I agree w/nemisis it not actually the speed of the bike when it comes to racing it is the rider.I rode a z since they came out and yea the frame sucks but the motor has potential. I won holeshots against yfz's, trx's all the time sx and mx but could only win the race in sx,because the short runs and all the jumps but mx theirs long straight where the 450's would pull away but i still would finish strong. I just put in A 440 big bore kit and I think its just as fast as the 450's. Oh by the way i have rode both 450's matter of fact i just raced the honda at the maxxis 12 hour . I would have rather raced my z440.

i ride my machine to the max no matter where i am and the 450r IS faster
dont get me wrong though i like the z also and i think its great in the woods but when i get on the 450 its just faster period.i wont even discuss my 400ex though cause its not even in the same league,but the reason i bought the z is cause its faster than the ex
