I have a 2000 400ex and it is having some problems. Yesterday I couldn't get it to start up.... I looked over it and pulled the spark plug to check for spark. The spark plug was a chalky black color and did not spark. I replaced the spark plug and it started right up. About 10 minutes later it died on me and would not start up again. I pulled the new plug out and again it was covered in a black resin. I read the tech article about the plugs and it said I need to adjust the fuel air mixture. I don't know how it could keep running well for me then all the sudden I need to change the fuel air mixture though.... Any help? How do I even go about knowing wether it needs more gas, more air or what? Could it just be my carb needs to be cleaned or my air filter needs to be cleaned?

Thanks!!!

if you have never cleaned your airfilter it could stop up and cause this but it would have to be really dirty. I would think that if the choke wasn't on and the airfilter is clean ,then it would have to be something in the carb. take it apart and clean it really good.

BTW are we talkin about a stock quad?

when starting it, don't keep nailing the gas. only pump it a few times at most so you don't flood the bike.
