Hey just got done installing my new hotcam last night, threw it all back together and fired her up for the first time about an hour ago. the first thing i noticed was a slight ticking noise coming from the top end, mind you this isnt the normal "knock" (while it is still there) that these engines all seem to have. It sounds like the valves, once she warms up though it seems to quiet down a little bit. And once its revved the noise goes away, either that or i cant hear it over the exhaust

Is this normal when installing a more agressive cam?

did you check the valves?and on another note did you use locktite(red)?

yes i made sure to double check the valves, had to go down to pick up some shims at the dealer yesterday and got some red locktite too. The clearances were all on, although one of the exhausts valves was a tight fit (not too bad though).

did you readjust the decompresser? make sure you add the exhaust valve clearance to it. One last thing did you use mm feeler gauge or in. make sure you did not get confused on the clearances.

inch feeler guage...i made sure to get everything right on. i did not adjust the decompression, that must be whats wrong. gah.... ok time to tear it all apart now. do you know if theres any correct clearance for the decompression mechanism? or just until theres no more play?

yes there is
DECOMPRESSOR CLEARANCE:
Right side exhaust valve clearance + 0.25mm(+or-)0.02mm(0.010in(+or-)0.008in)
with the hrc cam it would be 0.28mm + 0.25mm = 0.53mm give or take 0.02mm

your cam should have came with spec sheet. those are for the hrc cam i dont know how close it would be to the hot cams.
its 10mm more then a stock cam just so you know.

Exhaust is 10 thousanths... but ai thought decompressor is six thousandths clearance under decompressor arm. I just set mine when I changed piston. I thought decompressor is six thousandths. That's what mine is set at and don't have any ticking. Just FYI.

thats straight from the book and the HRC Kit book.;)
.006in. is for stock cam + exhaust valves which is .011in. which would be .017in. total

 this is why i dont touch my motor. i guess i feel its alright how it is...idk

You are correct. eleven thousandths on exhaust. Mine are set for ten thousandths which is in limits. I need to go and recheck my service manual and HRC book. I set decompressor at six thousandths twice. Once for cam and once for piston. I guess I better go back and read. It sure starts easy with 13:1 piston though.:eek2:

there is a difference in the to settings from the manual and the HRC book.
stock is .006in. and w/HRC is .010in. you still have to add the exhaust clearance to this to find your total clearance.
