Does anyone know where I can order a set of Heavy Duty Head studs at?? I would like to go ahead and order a kit before I get my engine pieces back.. I think the new studs will be a must since I am putting a 12.5:1 compression piston in her..

I second FDO. They'll drill and install for $100.

Do you have to drill the stock holes deeper?? or is it just stock length studs but stronger..

They drill deeper into the holes like 3/16th inch. They are fatter as well. Well worth the $100 if you keep blowing head gaskets.

I have rebuilt my cylinder 3 times. I run a 440 12.5:1 JE custom 89.25mm piston and my stock studs are tight as they were when it was a stock 400ex. I have not blown one single haed gasket, the reason is I don't run cometic or any other aftermarket gasket. I run a direct honda steel gasket. Duncan racing sells them, they are the same as stock, but made for a 440 or whatever size you need. They hold up to high compression, you don't need oversized studs to make sure they don't blow. I don't think I will ever have to replace my stock studs. They hold up great with the right gasket.

Danny,

I think you are the very RARE exception to the rule. Most people cannot keep that head on with that high of compression. Consider yourself lucky... ;)

Oh, BTW, I'm taking my bike into Precision Concepts this week to have them look it over and fix whatever the h*ll is leaking...

i got mine from rocky ridge racing. Cant remember who told me about them, might have been Rico, but they had great service, and my head studs are working flawlessly.

Maybe I am lucky, but the only gasket I will ever use is the stock honda version. Alin, when are you planning on going out to the desert, we'll have to meet up sometime this season. I went out this weekend just saturday and night to Superstition, is was great in the night, still warm however in the day, but it is slowly cooling. Halloween is my first official trip, and i'm going to Gordons.

Danny,

I went out 2 weekends ago. I bought my wife a Polaris scrambler 500 and she rode for the 1st time ever in the sand and did really well. We are still breaking in the bike.

I bought an Excursion and a toybox this year. Halloween will be the officail 1st trip. Sat,Sun and Mon. I'll be near the tower at Ogilby.
