we are calling it "stealth black" simply because it reminds me of a F117 stealth fighter's color. its not real glossy but it isnt exactly matte either. its pretty cool i think:D

im not changing your colors:o what you send is what you get:devil:

here is gun metal grey which IMO is one of the cleanest colors ive seen. it has a pretty cool look when the light changes, it goes from an almost black chrome look to a deep dark silver.

it seems ok. i did a 12 inch piece of 4130 chromoly tubing and threw it about 20 feet in the air. it landed on asphalt and bounced around with only a few pock marks from the pavement so i think it will be ok:p

That looks alot like what I had my pieces done in. If I remember correctly, the catalog called it Raven Black. It's kinda odd. By itself, it has very little gloss to it, but not matte like you said. But if you rub it down with some armor-all or the like, it is really glossy. Spray it down with water and towel dry, and presto, back to the dull finish.

Nice finish, but I prefer the black gator used on the original stealth quad in the Nov issue of ATV Sport. :)

yeah it looks pretty cool....but wait till it gets caked with mud and doesnt come out of that finish:(

lmao...and how could they call that quad "stealth" anything....its got so much bright purple on it even a blind camel jockey could see it coming:p

It looks a lot like satin black to me, maybe its the photoshop deal.
Is it flater than satin, but glossier than matte?
You got it goin' on there Pappy:D

Pappy
10-09-2004, 09:31 PM
its actually a very fine textured powder. the texture isnt deep so dirt shouldnt want to get in there and not come out. i usually dont like plain, kinda dull colors but this has me smiling. i keep looking over at the stems i have here and chuckle at how cool they look:p

When you know how to quickly and effectively clean quads (the Simple Green knock off called Jungle Jake) keeping your machine looking new is never a problem....no matter what the finish. The textured Gator finish has not created any hassles on the machine. I've actually had the machine caked in dried clay after covering a race. 10 min. later, it was back to new. The Stealth came from the after-dark glow of the purple. Besides, all black is way over used. :)

Jetblast

Keep experimenting with PC people, you'll be surprized at what you can create.....after all, why just settle for looking like the others when you can customize and personalize.

To those of you who read ATV Sport, thank you :)

Pappy
10-10-2004, 09:16 AM
oh god forbid...i dont know how to clean a quad:(

and thanks...us laymen will keep experimenting:devil:

i'm sry but i have to say something about this... stealth is not supposed to be seen at night... anything that gives a glow off at night IS NOT STEALTH HAHA... go look at a f-117a... theres no one spec of any color except black on the outside...

Pred

Pappy, sorry for coming off snooty, not my intention. Yes, we thought the textured finish was possibly going to be a pain, but I've been pleasantly surprised.

Tammy, I'm well aware of the actual 117's. My 8 years of Air Force time included working on the real ones. When you incorporate all the bolts being changed over to titanium, and the hand made carbon fiber pieces.....it's the package deal. Anyway, have fun! :)

Someone gonna kick out a candy green frame to match that nifty new black 450R plastic?

i actually ordered some powder that maybe ok ...not sure yet.

its a "dormant" powder that requires a second curing to bring out the final color. it is supposed to have luminating qualities after dark so we will see.

as far as the off the wall colors, i havent seen many people getting them done east of the rockies. the sand riders can get insane but treebashers tend to prefer basic colors.

So it will glow in the dark? Thats awsome. How much would that run to get a frame powdercoarted?

IMO the best color is best left to the owner of the part getting coated:p

so many colors look good with white it really is personal preference

Hmmmm, black 450R in the spring, what color for the pc work. Decisions decisions.

Pappy
10-13-2004, 08:42 PM
yup just trans green over chrome.

its ok, looks good in the pics and under flouresant lights but IMO its too light over this base for a quad. it is a thin substrate powder so doing it over too dark of a base or over silvervein could jeoprodize the powders integrity and make it weak. i think a darker base will look better in person tho.....pics can be misleading.

besides...isnt green a bad luck thing with racers?:p
