View Full Version : 18 in rear tires vs 20 in

im running a 416, stock gearing with 20 in rear tires. whats the advantage of going to a 18 in tire. and what sprockets do ya recomend for the 18 in tires? doing some riding on a dirt track with a few jumps. just wondering if 18 in will help on lap times? running 21 in on fronts if this helps. any help appreciated...

If your doing MX only, then definately go with the 18 inch tires... They feel a lot more stable, and look better.. With your 416ex, I would go up to a 16 tooth front sprocket.. or keep it stock..:D

what tire do you recommend...im thinking about starting out in mx racing and i also have a 416 with stock gearing but what kind of tire would be the best for light mud/ packed dirt?

18's are very nice because of the lower COG and better accel. The best for light packed and mud would be any of the 3 Razrs, Holeshots, Klaws.. I personally am stuck with the klaws they hook great and wear awesome. But all three i have tried and are all awesome tires.

the KLAWS grip great and last forever!
My ITP`s went smooth in no time.

I went to the mx track yesterday for the first time on my new 18" tires and I was really impessed by the acceleration.
I drag raced a 450R yesterday and it was dead even. He out launched me the first time and I stayed that far back the whole time. We raced again and then I out launched him and was slightly ahead the whole time. We got on the track and within a half a lap I passed him:D

if you want NICE 18'' tire then just get a set Turf Tamers by ethier carlisle or titan. I love mine and they are so cheap
