So last night I got my clutch all together(hinson basket with barnett springs and plates, so this evening after school today I ride it for a good 10 min, man it is running awesome, clutch turned out great, then I hit a small 20 foot tabletop(field approch), hit the landing nicly, then I hear it backfire once.... then twice, ext. its been running like complete crap ever since, I'm almost positive it leak popping, Idle is just fine but everything after is pure backfiring. Like theres somedirt in the carb, so I took apart that a few times and cleaned it, still nothing, BTW this is a FCR39mm, and a 416ex. Any ideas? I think it's time for a new fuel filter or something....-darren

Check the intake boot between the carb and motor. What year is your bike? The 99's had a problem with this boot cracking, but even the redesigned one can develope a problem over time.

I had some backfiring on mine and it was due to a leak on my exhaust. The location is where the exhaust and the head pipe meet. I put a lot of some permatex high temp silicone gasket sealer there and on the head pipe/exhaust ports. That resolve the backfiring on my 416. Good luck.

I'll try that out, butits not like its just a backfire everyother second, its like the throttle is the backfire button, just constant backfires. thanks, any more ideas?-darren

maybe you knocked something electrical loose, or a ground wire.

Your cdi could have fried. If you have another, change it out. If you have ever ridden a blaster, it has a rev limiter when the parkign brake is on. You may have broken a wire from the cdi, or it could be bad.

did you refill the oil after you changed the clutch?

Yeah I did the oil fill up all right, but thats a good idea about the cdi though, I did just hook up a new battery from pappy(previous one broke in 1/2 at the track), and I also rigged up dual front lights (powered by a toggle going straight to the battery). So I'll dubble check the electrical junk on there and hope for the best, I ask myself, where would I be without exriders?thanks again-darren

Well this morning I looked around the electronics, and turns out that little ground wire by the coil must've got unhooked... weird.... Well its fixed now, and runs awesome, I've been ripping up the ditches ever sence. Thanks for the help guys, remember to check that wire if you have similar problems.-darren
