theres a 400ex for sale that i might be gettin and the guy said that it has no back brakes. i was wonderin if anyone knows what to look for when there are no brakes. is there something that goes out on brakes more than other parts that this could be and how much would it cost to fix. i havent looked at it yet but im gonna look at it tommorrow. thanks

yea get a master cylinder and caliper rebuild kit and then bleed them real good. they should work no problem after that

Try bleeding them, or I've seen rebuild kits for like 20 or 30 bucks. Or just dont bother having the rear brakes. You don't need them. I haven't had rear brakes for a while and I'v done just fine.

ya...the rear brakes were messed up on my 400ex & I made it by for like 5 months by just using the front....i found a used complete system on ebay later when I got some money...i only use the rear brakes now for like emergency stopping

If I remember corectly about 85% of braking power comes from the front brakes. You just have to be a little more cautious about stoping. I actualy is that big of a loss not having rear brakes.

I use my rears about the same as my fronts, for really stopping and slowing down I use fronts but for everything else(whipping the arse end around, powerslides(lean, lock up rear, give her gas, drop the clutch)ect. When I really rip it up, I use the rears a lot.-darren...sorry for getting a bit off subject

I hardly ever use my rears. If i need the lil extra stopping power i will, but mostly i just use my fronts! For powerslides i just lean and gas it.
