Im looking at getting new shocks for my quad. Im not really wanting to drop $500-$900 because due to my job I am unable to race or ride very often. I dont race, just trail ride and dune. I am trying to figure out if anyone has mounted the 450r shocks on a 400ex and how they fit. I know the rezzie is mounted towards the back and trying to figure out if that will be an issue since I have scoopson mine. Also are these even a good upgrade from stockers anyways or would I be better off just getting like some budget Works shocks because they are alittle cheaper. I am also looking to change the rear to a 450r. Cany the be rebuilt by a company like tcs or something to make them closer to a high end shock. Just tryinmg to find some options before I have to drop serious cash on shocks. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Eric

They will work....just have to do a little grinding. Nothing major at all. Sirbane put them on his 426ex. Send him a message and he can help you out.

did you do anything to the 450r rear shock to make it fit your 400ex?

ya i had the 450r fronts on mine for a little bit and loved them over the stock shocks, but then I had to give them back to the owner:(

I am running the 450R shocks on mine with JD Performance +2 arms and love it. Just had to do MINOR grinding to fit in the upper mount and then adjust the rebound and compression to my liking. Look on Ebay. They sell for 250.00 set.

yes they will fit, But if u leave them stock, that will set your front end up about one inch over your rear end!!!, But I have a buddie, who sent a set of 450r shocks in Santo Derise (sp), And he is going to revalve them, and put a triple rate set-up on them, And from what i understand that sould be a really good setup he said!!! I might check into that, i think the price for all that is just a lil over 500 (just dont take my word on that price)

MY QUAD ONLY CAME UP 1/4" FROM STOCK HEIGHT. DEPENDS ON THE RIDING YOU PLAN TO DO IF YOU SHOULD REVALVE OR NOT.

What about suspension travel 450R vs 400ex? If the 450R has longer travel than the 400ex, the suspension would bottom out before the 450R shock-correct? This couldn't be good for the a-arms & ball joints....

With +2 arms everything is good.

i don't think the aarms will bottom out with what little difference in shock travel is gained. By this i mean if you take your shocks off, the aarms can move up way more than the travel of the shock.
Just my observation, but i could be wrong.

I've got TCS revalved 450R front shocks on 400EX and they're a big improvement over stock. Now I need to do something with my back shock.
