they will but you have to buff them back out. wet sanding will dull the shine really bad. id go with 400, 800, 1500 then a low pile buff

after you do this, you might think about torching your plastics. Do a search about this, there is some good information. It brings a lot of the shine back to the plastic

Here are some pics of mine after wet sanding and after I sprayed on Terry cable plastic renew, works pretty good . You'll need at least two cans at $25 a pop or I usually use PC Racing plastic renew $18 a bottle and I've done my quad like 6 different times and still have about 1/4 of a bottle left!!http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/1BAD4HUNDI/DSC00880.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/1BAD4HUNDI/DSC00885.jpg :D

wet sanding is the process of spraying whatever you are sanding with water while you sand.

did those rears stay that color?or was that just because you just applied the stuff so that was why it was so shiney?

Nothing is indestructable, the plastic stayed shiny for quite a while but after riding through the wood for a while they get scratched up. I prefer the PC racing plastic renew, it holds pretty good and at $18 a bottle... like I said I've done my quad at least six times and still have about 1/4 bottle left!! Don't get me wrong it's a lot of work to get it to look good, BUT when compared with buying new plastic all the time I'll do some work any day!:D
