if you do not want to buy an aftermarket airbox lid you should try putting a book sock over the the air box it keeps alot of sand and chuncks of mud and such out of your airbox you just have to cut the book sock wherer the latches go and should work fine but it makes hard to put the airbox lid backon if you want to.
